The company that owned Silliman Reef decided to sell its interests in it to another group of investors in 1829. This new group leased the mine from American soldiers who were stationed there as part of an ongoing military campaign against Mexican forces occupying Northern Arizona. The lease allowed Mexicans only access to bring water and wood back up from the mines; no food or merchandise could be exported from them! Although this arrangement was temporary, it did not sit well with some Americans who felt like their property rights had been violated. They soon formed a group known as “Silliman Raiders” to fight back against their Spanish landlords! In 1830, after several months of fighting and dozens of casualties on both sides, Mexico signed an agreement ceding control over Arizona Territory back to United States hands! Arizona quickly became a Lesser Slave State as white entrepreneurs took advantage of its vast resources (especially timber) while Native Americans were forced into slavery or used as cannon fodder during wars between Spain and Ulysses S Grant’s United States army. By 1840 there were only around five hundred Native American residents remaining in Maricopa County; most had moved out because they didn’t want gunslingers or settlers coming looking for them).

The Territorial Legislature changed its name from “Alaska” back to “Arizona” on February 14, 1912 upon becoming a full-fledged state within United States borders following passage by Congress during World War I . Maricopa County was organized on November 1, 1912 as part of this act with jurisdiction over all unincorporated area east and south thereof including Tempe (now Phoenix) and Mesa (now Scottsdale). On November 25th 1920, Maricopa County citizens approved an amendment which created Apache County out of portions of Maricopa County northward extending into today’s Graham Valley westward from Goodyear Road running generally northeasterly along present day Interstate 10 . Apache County was organized on January 16th 1923 when all but easternmost portions (the portion lying between Wellington Road on the east side and 8 Mile Creek on the west) were detached from Maricopa County
The Maricopa County seat of Phoenix was first settled in 1867. The original name for the area, "Yuma," was changed to Phoenix in 1887. The city of Phoenix was founded on November 16, 1912 by James Dyer as a result of the completion of the Arizona-Mexico Railway. It became an incorporated city on January 1, 1915.
