Marana is a city in Pinal County, Arizona, United States. The population was 7,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Phoenix metropolitan area. Marana is bordered by Tempe to the north and east, Scottsdale to the south and west, Mayer to the northwest, and Superior to the northwest and northeast. The first European settler in what would become Marana was Manuelito Perez on November 8, 1887. Perez named his agricultural holdings "La Casa Blanca" after himself and his white wife (Linda Blanca). After years of discussion between Mexican officials who were present at that meeting as well as Webb Jennings of Salt Lake City over property lines within what became Marana Township (later Uptown), Perez received title to alluvial land from Cochise County on December 10, 1888 which included most of what would later be called Marana Township. This parcel extended from today's North Mesa Road eastward for about three miles until it intersected downtown Phoenix limits; it then curved southwest back towards Cochise County boundaries before terminating at today's corner of 2nd Avenue East/West Streets south of West Camelback Road in present-day Goodyear Park neighborhood now bounded by those streets on one side and Indian School Avenue on the other. Perez built a adobe home near what is now Second Avenue East/West Streets in early 1889 which he called "El Rancho". He raised cattle there until 1893 when he moved them operationally to Scottsdale where they continued until 1896 when he sold everything including La Casa Blanca and El Rancho to Atherton Irving Forrester for $1,500 cash plus $200 worth of shares in Forrester Land Company which he founded with others John Haggerty (owner/operator) & Wm. Haggerty Sr., also owners/operators of Goodyear Park Racetrack & Casino located on acres adjoining Forrester land grant along with future business partners James Ewing & Arlene Ewing Snively who were married July 6th 1915 according to records kept by her father James Snively Jr.. In later years she changed her name Toeheys but always retained her maiden name throughout her life.. In 1912 Buena Vista WaterWorks Company was organized with Arlene Snively as President pro tempore; this company provided water services for cities such as Phoenix through intakes from Mohawk Creek near Goodyear Park Race Course thru Wells Branch Reservoir into CentralPhoenix Municipal Utility District #2 [now Metropolitan Area Power Authority] service territory thence into SouthernArizona Electric Company territory via Mohawk Creek outflow thru Apache Junction Reservoir into Southern Arizona Edison Service Territory #2 [now Arizon Republic NationalPower Corporation] service territory thence into Southern Arizona Public Service District territory [now Tucson Electric Co.] service territory thence into Regional Western Transmission Administration Administration jurisdiction [now NorthernArizona Transmission Administration Authority] jurisdiction

Marana, Arizona is a small town in Pima County, Arizona, United States. The population was 1,564 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tucson metropolitan area. Marana was founded on October 8, 1912 by John Leland and his family as an agricultural community named "Wahiawa" after the nearby Wahiawa Mountains. The name change to Marana in 1916 when it became a station on the Southern Pacific Railroad. The first store opened in 1915 and the first post office opened in 1917. In 1922 the first school was built and the first church was erected that same year. A fire destroyed most of the town in 1925 but Marana continued to grow until 1959 when it lost its status as a township due to statehood changes within Pima County. In 1979, Marana received water treatment from Scottsdale Municipal water system which improved living conditions for residents including reducing reliance on groundwater resources used for irrigation purposes and opening up access to fresh air for those who lived near Scottsdale Municipal park; this event marked also much-needed development within town center while maintaining local control over government services In 2002, construction began on what would become one of downtown's largest developments - The Park Place shopping center - making Marana one of only a handful of communities across North America experiencing such large-scale redevelopment projects during that decade Today, Marana continues to be home to many businesses with its focus being residential housing and retail mixed use development around its main square or central plaza
In Marana, Arizona, the first white settlers arrived in 1864. The town was founded by Capt. John C. Cooke and his wife Maria who moved from Apache Junction,Arizona. They named their new settlement after the Marana River which they saw in a map of the area that year. The community developed rapidly due to its location on a good route between Tucson and Phoenix and its access to water resources. In 1870, the Cooke family sold their land to Pima County for $3,000. The county started building roads in Marana in 1872 and it became a popular place for farmers to bring their goods to market. By 1904, the population had grown to over 100 people and it began developing into a small town with several businesses including a bank, grocery store, post office, school and two churches. In 1916-1918 World War I led to an increase in population as men served in the military; however during this time period there were no schools or medical care available for those living near the front lines. The last resident of Marana died on July 10th, 2018 at the age of 97 years old; he was preceded in death by his wife Lucy (nee Cook) who passed away on May 9th of that same year; his son John C., Jr.; stepmother Alice Fenton; brother-in-law Harry Aiken; niece Nellie “Nellie” Lillis; nephews Royce Haggerty and Richard Haggerty all of whom also lived nearby at one time or another during their childhood homecoming summers when they would drive down from Flagstaff for visits with their grandparents!
