The city also boasts some beautiful landmarks including John F Kennedy Presidential Library, Amphitheater District Park, Pershing Square Shopping Center and Nogales Dam Bridge which are all major tourist attractions that make up its downtown district according to Forbes magazine’s list of “America’s Most Beautiful Towns” (2006).
Lake Havasu City was founded in 1887 by the Gadsden Purchase and wagon train of Don Carlos Mariscal. The town grew quickly due to its location on the Colorado River and access to irrigation water. The city annexed other towns in 1912, when it became a county seat. Havasu City extended its boundaries to include portions of the neighboring municipalities of Williams and Prescott in 1938. In 1951, the city consolidated with those two towns, forming a new municipality known as Havasu City-Williams County.
