At some point around 1945 or 1946 Camp Bowie was abandoned due to lack of use and fell into disrepair until it was purchased by private individuals in 1978 and reopened as Casa Grande Hills Park which still functions today as a park with campgrounds available for visitors. In 1912, the United States Congress passed House Resolution 1128 which called for federal funding for improvements to I-10 between Phoenix and Tucson which then included route through Havasu City. Additionally, this resolution also called for planning studies to be conducted to improve railroad transportation through these two cities together. The studies were done by JW Marriott who would later authorize such plans for Arizona's First Highway System plan that still exists today! 2 years later on July 9th 1914 local businessmen James Whitman (founder/director Southwest Airlines) & Clyde Ewing (founder/director Kofax Camera) organized a group composed mostly of farmers from central Arizona to form a demand for better water access along I-10 near present day Glendale Heights AZ There had been reports from previous travelers about inherent difficulties due to lack thereof downstream from White Mesa Lake especially during periods of high water levels
