Kingman, Arizona is a small town in Pinal County, Arizona. The population was 7,738 at the 2010 census. Kingman is located southwest of Phoenix on State Route 17 and northwest of Tucson on State Route 85. The first humans to live in this area were the Hohokam people who left behind evidence of their presence in what is now Kingman in the Late Archaic period (c. 3000 BC-2000 BC). In 1879, prospectors discovered gold near present day Kingman and began mining for it. A Post Office was established at Kingman on November 20, 1881. The first store opened in 1886. In 1912, a local water company was organized and started supplying water to KINGMAN from an underground well near present day Tombstone Road/Route 85 south of the town limits. In 1916, the US Army built Fort Huachuca during World War I as part of an effort to secure irrigation supplies for agriculture vital to California’s war effort; however, fortifications failed to keep Apache Indians from raiding settlements adjacent to Fort Huachuca over time and finally abandoned it after hostilities ended in 1918. At that point control of the fort passed back and forth between civilian authorities and military officials until 1951 when it reverted back to civilian control through Republic Services Corporation effective October 1st of that year following passage by Congress of Public Law 92-513 which modified Army regulations governing land use within territorial boundaries with a focus on assimilating Native American nations into Anglo culture while ensuring access by those nations to government resources necessary for self-reliance without becoming dependent upon outside forces or unfair competition from other Indian tribes living within similar boundaries; see also: Fort Huachuca National Monument (#566) Kingman has seen various changes throughout its history including growth due primarily to tourism industry development as well as agricultural and industrial production thanks largely to Coconino National Forest land management policies adopted beginning in the late 1960s which have kept primary forested areas open while allowing grazing operations within limited buffer zones around townships; see also: Coconino National Forest#Land Use Policies

Kingman, Arizona is a small town in Pima County, Arizona, United States. It was settled by the Kingmans in 1867. The post office at Kingman was first established in 1874. The population of Kingman was 1,844 at the 2000 census. The town is named after General Edwin A. Grant, who had been born in nearby Apache Junction and died there on July 8, 1912. Grant's family included one of the founders of Kingman-Aurora Elementary School (now known as Roosevelt Middle School). Kingman has a rich history that goes back to when it was an Indian country reservation commanded by Chief Manuel Antonio Chavez. When white men began to arrive in what is now Phoenix they encountered Native Americans living near present-day Kingman with their traditional hunting and gathering activities which disrupted their way of life somewhat but did not entirely take away their fishing and agriculture abilities. In 1867 Augustus Earle bought 640 acres (248 hectares) east of downtown Phoenix from the Cochise Indian Nation for $10 per acre ($1 million at current prices). He donated it to Queen Victoria High School for Girls where he also served as trustee from 1888 until his death in 1901. From this land Earle developed what is now Mesa Verde National Park adjacent to downtown Phoenix and built Earle House which still stands today as a local landmark following its restoration in 1984 by then President Ronald Reagan during his administration (). Queen Victoria High School closed due to lack of students in 1931 however reopened 12 years later under new management as Kingship Bible Institute (). In 1961 Kingship Bible Institute merged with Tempe Day school district making it one large school district (). As one large school district it contracted into four schools specialising specifically within math/science/engineering etc.: Desert Hills Preparatory Academy (), Chandler Preparatory Academy (), Valley View Unified School District () and Phoenix Union High School (). Valley View Unified School District became the only non-profit public high school teaching grades 9 through 12;Phoenix Union Highschool became a charter school serving PreKindergarten through 4th grade starting fall 2013 after being founded as Sacred Heart Catholic Schools Charter Schools () about 15 minutes southwest of downtown Phoenix
