The Kingman Arsenal was founded in 1885 by George Armstrong Custer and his brothers-in-law Carlisle and Jesse James. The arms are two rifles crossed with a horseshoe, which represent the many frontier battles fought in that region during the late 1800s. The original post office was established at Kingman on December 10, 1886. It was moved to its current location three years later on November 6, 1890. The name of the town comes from General George Armstrong Custer's First Cavalry Regiment's battle in 1876 at Kingman Hill near Apache Pass outside of Phoenix where he led his unit against Native American forces. After that battle he became known as "theHeroofKingman." As part of the city of Phoenix growth during the 20th century, much development took place within walking distance of downtown including an addition to City Hall (1912), an enlarged jail (1917), renamed Regency Mall after developer Harry Regency (1924), and more shopping centers including Chase Park (1927) and North Scottsdale Center (1969). However, due to high levels of traffic congestion around downtownPhoenixand elsewhere in Metro Phoenix over this period there has been significant decline in residential population density and jobs for most residents east of Camelback Road since those areas were annexed into the city limits without giving any corresponding rights back to their longtime residents west of Camelback Road who had paid taxes for all that space since before annexation occurred. With this merger came much change for both cities with Kingsmen moving into new homes while also opening up several old ones to residents who had been living in apartments or condos or paying monthly rent or having no choice but to leave their neighborhoods due to development pressures within their respective communities. In recent years both cities have seen growth in arts & culture programs - such as Art Walk Fridays at NGA featuring local galleries previewing new exhibitions throughout downtown Phoenix each month long - while efforts are made to connect the two areas more closely through transportation options like light rail transit connecting downtown Phoenix with Scottsdale Boulevard/7th Street SW., bike paths & sidewalks connecting all parts of town as well as initiative called "Neighbors Come Together" which brings together community members from both cities for meetings about shared goals within their neighborhoods
Kingman was founded in 1912 by John Kingman and his family. The first post office in Kingman was established in 1914. In 1916, the town became a reservation for the Navajo Nation. The population of Kingman grew rapidly during World War I and II due to its location on the Arizonan military base at Yuma Army Airfield. In 1948, the Arizona National Guard opened up an airbase in Kingman which served as the hometown of then-Governor of Arizona Moe Brown. In 1957, Kingman became a city with a population of over 25,000 people.
