Kingman, Arizona is a city located in the south-central Phoenix metropolitan area. It was founded in 1912 by George West and named after Kingman, Arizona, which was then part of Mexico. The population of Kingman was 8,500 as of 2010. The first tool company in Kingman was the Kincaid Manufacturing Company. They produced tools for farmers and miners. In 1924, the company merged with anotherTool Company to form the Western Tool and Machine Company (WTMC). WTMC became one of the largestTool Companies in America until it merged with DeWitt Clinton Tool Corporation in 1987. In 1955, WTMC bought out rival Dean’s Tools Corporation for $2 million. Dean’s Tools had been manufacturing hand tools since 1892. At that time, Handy Andy's Hardware Store was also founded in Kingman by Andy Hargrave and his brother-in-law Harry Laughlin as a hardware store/repair shop serving townspeople throughout central Phoenix until it closed its doors in 1984 due to financial difficulties. In 1968,WTMC purchased Oscar Preuss' Belt & Sheath Manufacturing Company which made sheaths for belts and other items such as toolboxes from leather products used by professional mechanics and engineers. The company continued to produce sheaths until it ceased operations in 1990 after suffering heavy competition from Leather Working Enterprises of America (LWEA).

At that time it was known as Apache Junction. In 1907 the post office was renamed Kingman after General George Armstrong Custer and his regiment during the Indian Wars. From 1907 until 1912, Kingman had its own school district which included both elementary and high schools. In 1912, when Phoenix became a city, Kingsmill Elementary School became part of Phoenix Unified School District. On March 6, 1969, Queen Creek High School opened west of I-10 at milepost 164 on Highway 95 North in what would be called Park Valley today. When Queen Creek closed in 2001 due to budget cuts by Phoenix Unified Schools District Superintendent John Haughey, most students transferred to nearby Goldwater High School for three years before returning to their original schools

Kingman, Arizona is a small town in Pinal County, Arizona. The population was 3,724 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Pinal County and home to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The name "Kingman" was given to the community by General Tom Parker in 1913 as part of his efforts to rename all of Apache County after military and civilian leaders who had distinguished themselves during World War I. The area that makes up Kingman today was first settled by the Hohokam Native tribe in the late 1800s. In 1887, a group of miners discovered gold near what is now Kingman. By 1907, over 100 people lived in Kingman and it had a post office and store. In 1912, general Tom Parker renamed Apache County after himself and other notable military leaders from World War I. Today, much of what makes up Kingman has been built upon since then – including Wright-Patterson Air Force Base which opened its doors to the public on August 17th 1959. Additionally, many businesses have also grown here over time such as Tractor Supply Co., Pioneer Natural Gas & Electric Cooperative Inc., Goldfarb's grocery store, TireResource Center (now known as GFCO), and most notably KFC World Famous Chicken restaurant which opened its doors on November 16th 1987 in what is now downtown Kingman. Kingman has always been an important center for commerce within Pinal County and has seen some significant changes over time – most prominently with the opening of Interstate 10 in 1958 which allowed for more rapid growth throughout the townspeople. Kingman was founded on November 3, 1912 by James A. King and his wife Alice. The town was named for Kingman County, Arizona Territory. In 1916 the population of the county was 1,431 and in 1920 it had grown to 6,898. In 1953 the population of the county was 10,521 and it had increased to 18,711 by 1980. By 1990 Kingman had a population of 27,516.
