Kingman, Arizona (formerly Kingman, Arizona Mines and General Mining District) is a town in Pima County, Arizona, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Phoenix metropolitan area. The first European to set foot in what would become Kingman was Andrew Henry King in 1867 while on a survey of Tucson Valley. He named the site after his father-in-law, George A. King who had been living there since 1859. In 1862 prospectors discovered gold near present day Kingman and began mining for it. In 1865 a post office was established at Kingman; it remained in operation until 1912. In 1874 an act became effective providing for irrigation of the Tucson Valley by way of canals from the Santa Rita Mountains and creating the San Pedro River Basin as part of that Act; this action laid out much of today's east side of downtown Phoenix including parts of what are now south central Mesa and north central Scottsdale. On July 20th, 1886 during Gold Rush days local prospector John Suckling located rich nuggets on land leased from Doniphan Mining Company east of downtown Phoenix; he named the locality after Gadsden County Alabama native Robert Ewing Kingsbury (1824–1900). Kingman, Arizona is a small town in Pinal County, Arizona. The population was 757 at the 2010 census. It is located on the east side of the Mexican Riviera and on the border of Apache and Cochise counties. The Kingman post office was established in 1885, and served until 1907. The first settler in Kingman was John Haggerty who purchased land in 1887 from Manuel Nieto. In 1912, Harry Fenton acquired 3 acres (10 km²) of land north of town and donated it to the city for development as an open-air shopping center. In 1906, Prescott German American Savings Bank opened with $5,000 capitalization. Prescott had been founded by Prescott Noyes in 1905 as a savings bank that would provide banking services to German Americans living in Prescott and neighboring townships. The bank became one of the largest banks in Arizona before it merged into First National Bank in 1917. In 1922, when First National Bank acquired Mesa Commercial Banking Company, PrescottGerman American Savings Banks became Mesa Commercial Banking Company which continued until its merger into Citizens National Bank in 1955. In 1942, Kingman Post Office moved from its original location two blocks north to its present location on High Street after being destroyed by fire during World War II; however it reopened three years later after being renovated with new mail facilities and an addition to the main building that housed a library until 1978 when it closed again due to budget cuts caused by recessionary conditions throughout Phoenix). A large mural depicting Native American life composed entirely of paint was installed at the Kingman municipal complex between 1978-1982 following a gift from community member Bobbi Jileski as part of her initiative "Art For Our Community". In 1984 Donny Pfister donated a piece of land adjacent to City Hall which will become home to Valley View Park District - one such gift followed another from various individuals/groups culminating with completion of Valley View Park district's $27 million renovation project which began on October 1st 2003 and ended September 30th 2006 including installation of a brand new stadium capable seating for over 25,000 people (the old stadium had been used primarily for agricultural events). After more than 20 years without any major construction or updates taking place within Valley View Park District - including parts adjacent to City Hall where park boundaries have changed multiple times since - voters passed an amendment referendum authorizing Mayor Steve McNeill (D) to request funding from state legislation governing county redistricting plans so that Valley View Park District can update its facility plan consistent with updated county boundaries; this authorization led ultimately to construction beginning on July 1st 2009 across two phases: Phase One involved installing a brand new scoreboard system capable providing 720 HD video feeds statewide onto four different big screens inside OFS[4]Phase Two involved constructing multi-purpose fields totaling 105 acres (40 hectares) which include several batting cages along with fieldTurf artificial turf providingogging capabilities similar those available at larger sports venues around the country[5]. During Phase One there were approximately 100 ongoing archaeological excavations conducted within Valley View Park District while Phase Two saw groundbreaking occur for both baseball diamond renovations[6]onsite replacements for aging offensive line coach positions along with corresponding improvements elsewhere within park district resulting in increased fan attendance numbers (~7500 per game played over 4 seasons)[7]; these sorts Of projects are often not funded through government coffers as opposed to private donations like those aforementioned but allow valley view park district much needed stability & progress
Kingman was founded as an Arizonan Indian village in 1885. It became a city in 1912 and has since grown to become one of the most populous cities in the Phoenix metropolitan area.
