Kingman, Arizona is a small town located in Pima County, Arizona. The population was 3,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tucson-Mesa-Scottsdale metropolitan area. The first settlements in what is now Kingman were made by Spanish settlers in 1821. A post office was established there in 1827 and the name changed to Kingman in 1868 to honor General Mariano García de la Cruz y Ochoa, who had fought for Mexico against United States forces during the Mexican–American War. At the time of its incorporation as a city on February 14, 1912, Kingman had a population of 1,500 people and was known as "the Gateway to Tucson." Postmaster General James K. Polk appointed George Stephenson as Mayor of Kingman on October 25, 1912 after being selected from a field that included three other nominees submitted by citizens. Stephenson's tenure lasted one year; he resigned due to health reasons on November 6th 1912. The resignation created an opening for John Hahneman who was chosen over challenger Harry Daugherty because Daugherty could not meet the required number of signatures from registered voters for election night purposes (he received only 2 percent of the total vote). In 1916 Kingman became home to World War I veteran Major General Clarence Sibley Beattie who served with distinction both at Anzio beachhead and Caserta Peninsula where he successfully directed artillery fire into support of Allied troops while leading his unit across France during Operation Dragoon which ended on September 11th 1918; afterwards Beattie took command of XX Corps reserve under Lieutenant General Omar Bradley before returning home sick with measles contracted while serving overseas. On July 12th 1919 local paper reported that “Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders” Captain Jock Macdonald had been killed when his plane crashed near Prescott after takeoff from Phoenix Municipal Airport; however this report later turned out to be false and it later appeared that Captain MacDonald had jumped out before crashing into sagebrushland southwest of Prescott while still flying his plane (#PHX2155)%. Following World War II many businesses closed because there were no jobs available due to increased competition from new arrivals such as those brought over by Interstate 10 (I-10). One business which survived until today is Ladd’s Hardware which has been in business since 1924 adjacent to present day Mesa Street corner Ave., just east off I-10 between Union Avenue and Alma Road NE

A few restaurants still remain open serving up traditional Tucson-style food but these days there are also many chain restaurants available as well as more recent additions such as Steakhouseprosperity (formerly known as Jack & Jill) and Chili’s Frito Lay Super Bowl Grill which have made an impact on local culture by giving away free Fritos to customers during big game appearances! Kingman has seen a number of development projects over the years including: The new Elementary School opened in 2006 that replaced an old school building that had been sitting idle for many years; a new Recreation Center built in 2009 that includes both an indoor pool and gymnasium; a new fire station completed in 2013; and finally, plans are currently under way to bring Interstate 10 over to downtown via KINGMAN ROAD which would add much needed commercial space along with more housing options if approved!
Kingman was founded in 1912 by the Jameson Ranch, which is now a part of the Mohave County School District. The town got its name from Kingman Pass, which runs through the town. In 1915, the first post office was built and in 1916, the first store opened. In 1917, Kingman became a municipally-chartered city. In 1922, Kingman hosted its first rodeo. The following year saw the opening of the Arizona State Capitol building and in 1923, Kingman's first movie theater was built. From 1925 to 1957, Kingman had its own radio station KGPN (AM). In 1951, KGPN became KRQE (FM).
