In 1865, Goodyear became a county seat after it was moved from Cottonwood Heights to its current location within Pinal County. Goodyear's economy has been based largely on agriculture since its establishment; however, tourism has become an important aspect of its economy over time as well. Today, Goodyear's primary industry is automotive manufacturing, with many companies headquartered there including Ford Motor Company (F), Chrysler Group (C), General Motors Co., and Toyota Motor Corporation (TM). In recent years, Good Year has seen increased development around its downtown core which includes new restaurants and bars as well as retail space for larger-scale businesses such as Home Depot and Lowe's Homes Incorporated. GoodYear also features several museums which include the Gold Rush Museum (which exhibits artifacts from early mining operations) and Arizona State University’s Museum of History & Art (the largest museum devoted to history outside of California).
