Goodyear, Arizona is a town in Pima County, Arizona, United States. The population was 5,445 at the 2010 census. Goodyear is located on the eastern edge of the Phoenix metropolitan area and has been an agricultural center since its founding in 1875. The first firearms were used by settlers to protect themselves from Apache raiders. In 1881, Goodyear became part of the Mohave County district of Phoenix and a year later it became part of Mesa County. In 1912 Goodyear incorporated as a city and sold its land to the State ofArizona for $750 per acre ($). Today, Goodyear is one of the largest rural communities in Arizona with over 66% of its residents living in agriculture or ranching. Goodyear's history began with rifle shooting contests held at nearby chaparral pastures during February and March each year to determine who could fire most rounds without taking any losses. These rifle contests continued until 1903 when good sights were available for shotguns which led to increased competition among farmers for access to these new weapons. The first shotgun contest was held on October 21st 1903 by Fred Waddell and George Fenton at their farmhouse on present-day corner Main Street and High Street in Goodyear. Goodyear is a city in Pinal County, Arizona, United States. The population was 27,819 at the 2010 census. Goodyear was founded on November 3, 1885 by James Goodyear and his wife Clara. It became a separate city on December 1, 1912. On January 16, 1961 it merged with neighboring Scottsdale to form the current city of Phoenix.

The city straddles two major valleys, one watered by rivers which flow into canals that run through downtown Goodyear and form reservoirs for irrigation; while another valley ran generally east-west before joining up with the Salt River near its mouth. The name "Goodyear" is derived from John Goodyear's discovery of a molten metallic core in 1848 in what would become Goodyear City. In 1912, Goodyear merged with neighboring Fort Sill and together they formed Pinal County. The merger created an agricultural center due to irrigation projects authorized during World War I that diverted water from adjacent Canelo Canyon Creek beds for use in farming around present-day Goodyear and nearby towns including Tuba City and Nacoochee Hills. In 1924, when Congress passedrooted requirements for oil production in Arizona it became apparent that only goodyears could be used as seaports so a new town name was needed for an inland port on Hwy 66 between Phoenix and Tucson along with other necessary changes such as currency symbol (G) to reflect this fact. A vote was held on November 8th 1924 to select "GoodYear" as the new town name after citizens voted overwhelmingly in favor of it over options such as "Chandler" or "Nacoochee". Today's downtown area contains many businesses dating back to When Chicago bought land here in 1906: First National Bank (founded 1886), Southern Pacific Railroad Depot (1898), Ford dealership (1908/09), Cotton gin works (1910) & Wohlgemuth Brewing Company Ltd.(1912). Today there are also numerous restaurants, bars, cinemas & hotels within walking distance of central business district including Marriott Marquis hotel & Convention Center - all operated either Waterfront property managed or directly by local non-profit organizations like Chamber of Commerce or Downtown Development Authority who own majority shareages within their borders since 1985
