Goodyear, Arizona is a city located in the Apache Junction Micropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 56,811. The Goodyear Gun Company was founded in 1892 by Western Union employees and their families. Goodyear became world-renowned for its ballistics testing facilities, which were used to develop military firearms during World War I and II. Today, Goodyear continues to be an important center for firearm manufacturing and research.

In 1926 Goodyear annexed 12 miles (19 km) of Indian land lying between the Salt River and downtown Phoenix. The annexation created a new city with a population boom as people from surrounding counties moved into what had been once rural areas in search of opportunities for business and industry. Today Goodyear is known for its art galleries, theaters, restaurants, hotels, shopping malls and nightlife options like Live Nation'sPhoenix360 Amphitheater which houses both rock concerts and boxing matches throughout the year as well as several theme parks - such as Six Flags Over Georgia – within walking distance for those who want something more than just ordinary vacation experiences.

Goodyear is a town in the Apache Nation Indian Reservation in central Arizona. The population was 22,337 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Phoenix metropolitan area. The first people to live here were the Hohokam and their allies who crossed over from what is now Central Arizona in search of new land to create a new culture and way of life about 350 years ago. Goodyear was founded by James A. Brady on July 7, 1875 as a trading post for goods brought back by travelers on the Santa Fe Trail. In 1888, Goodyear became an incorporated city under the name of Phoenix when it had a population of 10,000 residents. Goodyear's history can be traced back to 1875 when James A. Brady established trading post at Goodyear Crossing on upper Arizonan Riverbank near today's downtown Phoenix while he continued his journey southward along what is now I-10 from Tucson through Salt Lake City and then east across Nevada territory into Arizona Territory where he met local Nahuatl speakers who told him about potential lands west of Prescott but no one wanted to risk going there because of hostile Apache Indians living there. So Brady set up shop at what are now Goodyear and Coconino Streets in downtown Phoenix with materials he had gathered during his caravan trip through western Arizona (see map). He marketed these lands as "the Gadsden Purchase", since they were all located within 3 miles (5 km) of each other – qualities that would Condition American farmers early enough to make this kind of acquisitions possible and justify their investment! On July 7th, 1875, Goodyear became an incorporated city under the name "Phoenix" after its incorporation by act vote; only 10 days earlier it had been named Cochise County after rancher James Cochise who donated land for the city center which included seven blocks bounded north by First Avenue NW and east by Second Avenue NE; southwest corner bounded just west of present day Camelback Road NW; east corner bounded west/southwest corner belonging to present day University District including White Flint Building lots northeast corner lot between Third Street NW and Fourth Street NW [see map]; northwest corner lot between First Street NW and Second Street NW." On November 15th 1870 & again on December 3rd 1870 Governor Don Carlos Williams signed legislation creating Maricopa County outgrowths from eastern New Mexico Territory with boundaries modeled after those proposed by General William Benton in his report Western New Mexico Survey #2 (1794).
