Goodyear is a city in Pinal County, Arizona. The population was 30,814 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Pinal County. Goodyear is part of the Tucson metropolitan area. Goodyear was founded on October 15, 1875 by James Goodyear and John A. Hodge as a town in what is now Cochise County, Arizona Territory (now parts of Pinal and Yuma counties). The first Post Office opened in Goodyear on November 1, 1875; it served as the only post office in Goodyear until 1912 when it became part of Pinal County. In 1896, the United States Congress passed an act authorizing a new municipal government for Goodyear which was created with land acquired from Cimarron Mining and Manufacturing Company heirs who had invested there since 1861. On March 4, 1897, the first municipal election was held to govern ratified by voters $3 per vote shared among all property owners within good radius of Goodyeartown limits; good year incorporation took effect on April 12 that same year under this new form of government with Mayor John Fenton serving as its headman. The two most significant events during early years were World War I (1918) and World War II (1939-1945). From 1918 through 1942 more than 20% of all jobs in America were done here at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company where more than 11 million men worked directly or indirectly for company production teams including those making tires for military vehicles and aircraft components such as wings and landing gear legs; many others worked long hours assembling munitions or producing other products necessary for war effort like ammunition drums and motors; many women also spent time at work here overseeing day-to-day operations while their husbands/boyfriends fought overseas. In 1939-1945 over 2 million people came to work at this plant contributing to wartime output that helped secure victory over Nazi Germany along with millions more across America whose labor supported basic Needs such as food staples like flour, oilseed rape seeds etc.; additionally during these difficult times local businesses poured money into philanthropy working together collecting supplies needed for American Red Cross relief efforts both locally and afar
