The first store in town was established by Goodyear and his brother George Goodyear. The original post office in Goodyear opened on February 14th, 1880. Goodyear's father, John GoodYear, also founded a flour mill in the town. By 1905, Goodyear had developed a manufacturing business that manufactured tires for automobiles and other vehicles. In 1912, the company merged with Dunlop Tire Company to form Dunlop-Goodyear Tire Corporation. On January 1st, 1928, the name of the company was changed to Good Year Tire Corporation again to reflect its history as a manufacturer of tires. By 1957, good year operated over 350 stores across America and employed more than 60 thousand people. On December 9th of that year, James Fenton took over as president and CEO of good year after Jim's death in 1959. From 1968 until his retirement in 1978 he led good year through several growth phases including increased production at their plants and an aggressive expansion into new markets such as Canada and Latin America
