Glendale is a city in Maricopa County, Arizona, United States. The population was 149,826 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous municipality in Arizona after Phoenix and has been expanding rapidly since its incorporation as a city in 1957. The name "Glendale" originated from the rough dirt road leading to it from what is now Glendale Heights – which was then part of Phoenix. The area that would become Glendale was first settled by Pima and Apache people in the late 1800s. In 1885, James Wacker built a ranch on site of present-day Glendale Hills and renamed it Wacker Ranch after himself. By 1907, Wacker Ranch had grown too large for him to manage alone and he sold it to John Goodyear for $2 million. Goodyear named his new company "Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co." and began producing tires there on his own land until 1911 when he merged with another tire company, National Harness Works, to form Goodyear-National Harness Company. In 1923, Goodyear merged with American Can Company to form American Can Corporation; but this merger also failed because American Can was not able to meet production quotas set by Goodyear-National Harness Works. In 1928, Goodyears merged again with National Harness Works (now known as owned by Bridgestone) to create North American Harniski Tire Corp.; but this merger too failed when National could not keep up with demand from independent distributors throughout North America. In 1933–34, Steel Dynamics Corporation bought out North American Harniski Tire Corp., reformed Steel Dynamics Corporation as Glendale Tire & Rubber Company (GTL), and produced tires under their own name until 1945 when they were acquired by Bridgestone who continued marketing them under their own name until 1984 when they became Bridgestone Tires Incorporated). At that time the corporation became known simply as Bridgestone Tires Incorporated (BTI). In 1988 BTI purchased bankrupt Textron Lubricants Corporation; however Textron continued marketing some older products under their own name until 1991 when BTI announced plans to phased out all old products except for those branded as Bridgestone Tires Incorporated (BTI) products in favor of a new product brand called Dunlop Products Inc.; however this plan never came into effect because Dunlop filed for bankruptcy soon afterwards. As of 2018 BTI operates as an affiliate of Tyco International plc.. The growth of Glendale has been largely due to two factors: the construction industry and energy production opportunities brought about by gasmasks drilling through Maricopa County's wellfields during the early 2000s boom period followed by increased residential development along Interstate 10 south of downtown Glendale over time resulting in more traffic congestion near I-10 than near any other major metropolitan area in Northern Arizona outside Scottsdale Junction or Tucson suburb Chandler or Yuma town Jerome/ Jerome City Center combined!

Glendale, Arizona is a city in Southern Arizona and the county seat of Phoenix. The population was 1,567,821 as of the 2010 census. Glendale has been nicknamed "The City of Roses" for its many rose bushes and blooms. The city was founded by Mariano Pacheco in 1885 as a small ranch town called Glendale Heights. In 1912 it became a municipality with a population of 382 residents. In 1924 the municipality was merged into Phoenix and Glendale remained as its only city-county seat until 1988 when Phoenix annexed most of Mesa County. The total population of Phoenix now exceeds 5 million people. One of the earliest known settlements in what is now Glendale was at Cottonwood Springs on February 14, 1885 by Juan Trippe and his brother Manuel Pacheco (alias Don José). At that time there were no roads or trails leading to or from downtown Phoenix so transportation was limited to horseback or wagon rides which made agricultural land much more important than it is today given access to both skyrocketing real estate prices and easy highway access from downtownPhoenix. In 1912, Mariano Pacheco moved his Rancho de las Estrellas eastward about 4 miles (6 kilometers) from where he had started it in 1883 to come up with ideas about creating a new community near East Deer Valley Road and Camelback Mountain because he felt that desert towns should have an adjacent major city for commerce, industry, education and other services that would make them attractive to settlers who might want to move westward into what had become the Prominence region including parts of Tempe, Mesa Verde National Park etcetera etcetera The name "Glendale" originated with Mr. Harry Weisselberg who purchased 2/3 interest in the Ranchero et al., Mexican land grant located east side of Scottsdale Rd between McDowell Rd & Apache Blvd on February 9th 1889; title deed dated March 3rd 1889 shows Hwy 66 extending 3 miles due northwesterly from present day intersection arterial/highway 10 W renamed Elee Dr way back then as Scottsdale Rd & Camelback Mtn Hwy

The original Glebe was located on what is now the northeast side of downtown and extended east to the present-day Echo Park district. In 1885, Glendale was part of the newly created Tucson area and by 1907 had become its own municipality. Glendale annexed much of central Phoenix in 1912 and during World War I developed munitions plants near Gila River Army Air Field (now Wright-Patterson AFB). After the war, Glendale became an upscale suburb with large homes and golf courses. It experienced economic decline in the 1970s and 1980s but has regained some popularity in recent years as a center for arts, music, education and technology.
