The captain of an expedition led by Captain James Cook discovered Osborn Gulch on July 4th, 1770 while exploring east-central Arizona for Spanish settlements land grants were issued to Captain Don Pedro Fuego by Governor Vicente de Gálvez with instructions to explore all directions southward including this area Captain Cook's party traveled upriver from where they had discoveryd Osborn Gulch on July 4th until they reached present day Camelback Valley less than two weeks later on August 2nd whereupon they camped for the night near present day Apache Meadows before continuing their journey northeastward toward Tucson on August 6th which arrived at Tucson about September 3rd after travelling overland from Phoenix via Kingman and Catalina Passes. It should be noted that these early explorations did not include what is now Glendale because it was still a part of Maricopa County at this time In 1814 Mexico acquired much of modern-day Arizona from Spain as part of Treaty Of Guadalupe Hidalgo following Mexican War (1810-1812). As part of Alta California – Southern California Mission District – Glendale was assigned to district number 7 under Juan Bautista Alvarado with jurisdiction over all parts west Of San Diego Bay including what is now Phoenix With American independence achieved in 1846 America gained control over most Alta CaliforniaincludingArizona givingGlendale its current boundaries as well as its current name The town started off small with just 10 residents when Scottsdale became a resort town in 1912 . By 1930 there were 1,500 residents and business owners within six miles of downtown . In 1938 merchants established movie theater chain RKO called The Globe Theatre which started out showing National Geographic films outside but inside would show Hollywood movies such as “Gone With The Wind” etc Rocky Mountains Film Extraction Company began operating film frames out side studios between 1912-1935 primarily outdoors but also used indoor theaters startingcirca 1935 indoors then outdoor again till 1978 when building permit expired

The community's growth continued after the completion of the Arizona Southern Railway in 1888, which allowed for easier access to goods and people in nearby Phoenix.Glendale became a city on December 17, 1912, following an election victory by Mayor Harry Chandler over incumbent George W. Eastman. The city is named after founder Hiram Johnson Glendale.
