The original Adobe Building (now known as "Old Town Hall") was built in 1907 on East First Street between Seventh Avenue and Ninth Avenue; it served as both a courthouse and municipal hall until 1917 when it burned down during World War I whileHatton was serving overseas with the American Expeditionary Force. In 1912–13 architect Charles Bickford designed two new churches for Fountain Hills: First Presbyterian Church (#4) on West Third Street between Ninth Avenue and Tenth Avenue (now replaced by Gateway Bible Chapel) and Second Presbyterian Church (#5) on East Third Street between Eighth Avenue and Eleventh Avenue (then replaced by Stonington Baptist Church). Designed by Bickford himself after years of experience with churches throughout Phoenix Territory, these buildings are considered some of his finest work. In recent years, more people have left Fountain Hills for other parts of Arizona or California because of its high cost of living and lack of job opportunities within walking distance of most residents' homes. In addition to its role as a bedroom community for Phoenix, Fountain Hills has also been used as a filming location for movies such as "The Help" (2011), "The Treehouse People" (1998), "5% Chance" (2007) and "Salt Lake City Heist" (2013).
