The town was founded on October 12, 1908 as part of an agricultural colony called Tombstone which also included nearby Cathedral City and Mohave City. Tombstone was destroyed by a fire in 1911 and its people moved away. Fountain Hills became a city on December 14, 1914 when it merged with neighboring Apache Junction. On January 1, 1925 it merged with Scottsdale. In 1957 it merged with Phoenix and then again with Apache Junction on July 1, 1957. On November 7, 1907 two young men named George Beard and Harry Haggerty set out from Tucson to shoot an animal they had seen near Red Mountain Creek in central Arizona for sport purposes only to realize that they were too far from civilization for any help to be sent; they abandoned their rifles back at their ranch home 70 miles (130 km) northeast of Fountain Hills before continuing further into uncharted country whereupon they discovered gold ore veins worth up to $5 million per tonne while traveling through what is now New Mexico Territory; during their wanderings along this route they came across other prospectors who reported similar finds but no one went anywherenear them because there seemed no financial return potential worth such risk In 1908-1910 four mines open in Arizona yielded over 100 million dollars in concentrates valued at $1 million each
Fountain Hills is a city in Pima County, Arizona, United States. The population was 7,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tucson metropolitan area. Fountain Hills was founded in 1885 as a small community on the outskirts of Tucson. In 1907 it became an incorporated town and by 1912 had over 10,000 residents. The community experienced prosperity during World War I when goods were brought in from California to be sold to American soldiers; however, this period ended with the war and Fountain Hills lost its status as an important agricultural center. However, growth resumed after World War II when new housing developments were built and thousands of people moved into the city limits. Today Fountain Hills remains one of the most diverse cities in Arizona with a large Hispanic population and a significant African American population. The economy of Fountain Hill has changed dramatically since 1990 when oil prices began to decline due to global recessionary conditions. Many businesses have closed or been relocated within the city limits because of this downturn including two major hotel chains: Hilton Head Island Marriott Resort & Spa (Hilton head island) and Wyndham Garden Resort Phoenix/Mesa (Wyndham Garden). In addition there have been several job losses at local factories that used to provide jobs for many people in Fountain Hills now searching for other opportunities outside of their hometowns

Fountain Hills was founded in 1912 by the Heard family. The first post office in Fountain Hills was opened in 1915. The population of Fountain Hills grew rapidly during World War I, and the town was renamed after Arizona's only mountain, Mount Hays. In 1919, the Heard family sold their holdings in Fountain Hills to the Guggenheim family. The Guggenheims developed a large citrus industry and added a shopping center and other amenities to the town. In 1972, Mesa Verde Corporation bought Guggenheim Industries and merged it into Mesa Verde Resources Incorporated. Today, Fountain Hills is home to many major corporations including Mesa Verde Resources Incorporated and Phoenix Homebuilders Association.
