Florence, Arizona is a city located in Phoenix, Arizona. The population of Florence was estimated at 97,620 as of the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Maricopa County and contains much of the downtown area. The first villages that sprang up around what is now Florence were used by Native American tribes for hunting and gathering resources. The Spanish colonists arrived in 1540 and founded Mission San Marcos de Tucson on the site of present-day Tucson. In 1867,zonation code 602 was created to organize land grants given to rural residents in central Arizona by Governor Don Carlos Ruiz y Monreal. The new town was named after a beautiful spring called "Fresno de la Villaria." In 1916, President Charles Evans Hughes designated Florence as the capital of Arizona because he felt it would be an important center for education and business development in the state. When World War I began, Prescott became the official capital due to its strategic location between points of interest on both sides of the war effort - but when war ended, Prescott returned to Florence. AsPhoenix grew rapidly during this time period, Florentine merchants responded with their own commercial district on Main Street which still thrives today as a vibrant shopping district known for its wide variety of local produce and artisanal items from aroundthe world (try some unusual items like figs from Tuscany). On October 12th 1870 by proclamation from US Gov’t Doc Dodge Mayor John Ritchie declared that “Fresno de la Villaria” had become “Downtown Florence”; however at that time there were no streets or buildings inside what is now Downtown Florence due to development eastward over 100 years ago! Downtown Florentine has since been rebuilt including many brand new shops and restaurants along much older streetcar lines leading into downtown which date back to before 1890 when Downtown Florence served as a manufacturing hub for surrounding townships

Florence, Arizona is a small town located in Cochise County, Arizona. The population was 1,138 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Phoenix metropolitan area. Florence was founded in 1889 by J.D. Glover and Wm. Hinkle as a post office called Globe and Hinkle Station on the Gila River. The name change to Florence after the Battle of Florence (1896). The early years of Florence were difficult due to lack of water and other resources necessary for development. However, with the help of some brave men and women, including entrepreneur John Pemberton and banker Cesar Chavez, things began to change for the better in the late 1800s. A streetcar line ran through town which made it easy to get around town and access all that Florence had to offer; such as schools, churches, businesses, hospitals and more! In 1907, Mrs. Lillie Singleton donated land on which stand today's Riverside Methodist Episcopal Church – one of only three original buildings in Florence! A library was also built at this time which still stands today! In 1930-1931 during World War II many residents served in military units stationed throughout Arizona or were drafted into service and never returned home! Because so many people had responded to wartime call-ups there was an increase in business activity within town hall as well as new construction being undertaken across streets from old buildings! One such project included building a new courthouse - thanks again to Mrs Singleton's donation! In 1948 then Mayor Fenton Greene dedicated two blocks east of downtown along First Street between Vineyards Road and Indian School Road – now known as Fenton Plaza – as part of plans for rejuvenation for downtown following fire damage done during the Tucson Earthquake years earlier! This plaza became home to city hall until moved out when updated City Hall facilities were built south down First Street just west of Indian School Road in 2001!!! On July 5th 1916 America declared war against Germany amidst Europe's first major conflict since World War I !!! Aftermath seen destruction both inside & outside city limits spurred efforts by civic leaders & citizens alike towards reconstruction culminating with establishment & dedication of county seat w/ territorial status formalized thru act OF 1912 !!With growth came problems especially during prohibition era when bootlegging increased rampant !!!!!! #FlorenceArizonaHistory

The first settlers in Florence were farmers who arrived in the early 1800s and began to build homes and farms. By the turn of the century, Florence had become a thriving community with a population of around 100 people. However, by 1915, Florence had all but disappeared as a result of World War I. The town was completely destroyed by fire that burned for days in April of that year. Despite this tragedy, many local residents continued to live and work in Florence until the late 1920s. In 1932, Florence re-appeared as a small town after being removed from census rolls due to its low population count at that time.
