The two men were looking for a place to retire after their years of work on the railroad. They found a tract of land that had been abandoned and decided to start a new town. By 1904, there were four stores in Florence combined with an opera house and a theater district that included several stores and restaurants. In 1916, Florence hosted its first county fair which drew many people from all around eastern Arizona to see what this small community could offer (Griffin 1984). Over time, other events have been held here such as dances during World War II or horseback riding tours during Christmas season (Goudreau 1990). There are also several museums located throughout Florence including the Heard Museum of Art which specializes in American art from pre-Civil War times to modern day works; the Florentine Museum which documents old Italian culture; and straddling Main Street between downtowns are three pubs – The Hermitage Bar & Grill on Main Street near Court Square; The Globe Tavern on North First Avenue near University Park; and The Gilded Cage on East Second Avenue near Interstate 10 just outside of town limits (Fenton 2007a). In addition to these cultural attractions, one can find several golf courses within walking distance as well as tennis courts available for use year-round (Fenton 2007b). One must be careful when driving through this small community however as there are many streetlights that may give you an incorrect impression about where you are going based off your location!

Florence, Arizona is a small town located in Pima County, Arizona. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. Florence is one of the oldest towns in Pima County and has been around since 1887. In that year, General John Cooke erected a trading post here on the south bank of the Gila River. A post office was established in 1892 and named Florence after Florence, Italy. The first settlers in Florence were French Canadians who arrived in 1887 and began to farm land here. By 1896, Italian Americans had also settled in Florence and it became an all-Italian settlement until 1957 when Japanese Americans moved into town as well. In 1927, the Pinal County seat was moved from Phoenix to Florence because there were too many Mexican immigrants living near Phoenix and officials felt that Pinal County would not be able to handle the influx of new residents alone. The first school in Florence was built on what is now Sixth Avenue West during 1907-1908. It was a log cabin with no teacher or students but it served as a school for several years until money could be found to build a more permanent structure. The first public library opened its doors here on December 1st of 1912 under Captain Wm Haskins’ ownership which later became known as The Daily Review Library. On March 15th of 1925, Kino Marcelino founded El Rancho de las Flores which still stands today next to First Baptist Church across from Interstate 10 east of town (the old site where I-10 meets US 90). This ranch provided food for local farmers while also providing jobs for locals such as Harry Smith who ran thesmith grocery store downtown from 1928 until his death in 1984. In 1932-1933, two Mormon missionaries by the name of John Davenport and Harold Boice came through town to proselytize for The Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints (LDS) and they started construction on what are now Good Shepherd Lutheran School annexes south of Center Street These annexes eventually housed both Florences high schools until 2006 when Good Shepherd High School closed down due to budget cuts within LDS headquarters compound instituted by then Governor Jan Brewer during her time as Superintendent of Education.. After multiple applications by Florences current high school graduate class seeking closure prior to 2006's closing campaign (and eventual reversal), LDS agreed thatGood Shepherd HS should remain open pending appeal proceedings allowing current students access & use while those appeals play out; however some classes have been cancelled due to lack enrollment so this decision may be reconsidered at any time! In 1936–37 state Route 159 connecting Prescott/Flagstaff via Flagstaff Junction changed course slightly northeast towards Tucson instead following State Route 191 then routing along 6th Street NW before turning southeast again just past First Baptist Church before continuing northeast past Seventh Street NE before entering Flagstaff proper at South Mill Road intersection North Mill Road becomes US 90 shortly thereafter

The population of Florence peaked at 2,499 in 1920 and declined to 1,824 by 1940.The decline can be attributed to a number of reasons including the cessation of mining operations near Florence after World War I and the entry into force of the American Civil Rights Movement which motivated African Americans to leave town.
