Flagstaff, AZ is a city in Coconino County, Arizona, United States. The population was 24,872 at the 2010 census. Flagstaff is considered a metropolitan area with a population of over 51,000 people. It is the seat of Coconino County and the largest city in the Mohave Valley region of southern Arizona. The first occupants of what is now Flagstaff were Native American Apache and Pima Indians who lived near present-day Phoenix and Prescott before moving to central Arizona in 1867. In 1912, during World War I, Cavalry troops traveling through Flagstaff found themselves under occupation by Italian forces as part of an allied military campaign against Austria-Hungary. After the war ended and Austrian forces withdrew from Tucson and other parts ofArizona, the soldiers left their equipment behind and founded the American Legion Post #5 on November 3rd 1916 at what would become known as "Old Town". In 1951 when Phoenix was incorporated as a city Limits referendum resulted in 52% approval for incorporation as Flagstaff Municipality; City Council Resolution No 9 passed that same night defining Flagstaff’s boundaries which encompass all or most of today’s eastside (southwest side including Old Town) stretching all the way to Canyon Lake In 1959 when Phoenix annexed much of eastern Coconino County it included what are now downtown Flagstaff (northwest corner), North Park (east corner), Talking Stick Resort & Casino (southwest corner), Cave Creek Ranch (@ west end) On July 1st 1959 City Council Resolution No 204 defined Downtown areas bounded by McDowell Road on north side; Saguaro Road on east side; Butterfield Drive on south side extending to Tyson Ranch @ west end ; Pioneer Trail running from east edge onto McClure Rd thence along McClure Rd to Curry Valley Rd where it turns south again continuing along Curry Valley Rd until reaching US 95 near milepost 10

Flagstaff, Arizona is a town located in Pima County, Arizona. The population was 1,824 as of the 2010 census. Flagstaff is home to the University of Phoenix and Prescott Valley Park. The city was founded on November 16, 1912 by George Armstrong Custer and his cavalry unit when they invaded Mexico to liberate it from Spanish rule. In 1926, the City Council renamed Flagstaff after Mount Allison in Nova Scotia, Canada. The city has experienced various changes throughout its history including becoming a ghost town during the Great Depression; being incorporated as a city on November 2nd, 1952; and finally becoming an incorporated village on October 15th, 1959. The first inhabitants of Flagstaff were Native American traders who traveled overland from Tucson to trade with the Mexican government. On July 20th, 1912 Captain George Armstrong Custer's cavalry unit invaded Mexico and captured Santa Fe without any casualties. After their victory Overlanders such as Harry Hayden established trading posts along the route that later became known as "the North Road". In 1926 City Council decided to rename Flagstaff after Mount Allison in Nova Scotia which at that time had just become part of Canada after its independence from Great Britain. At first no one wanted to move because they thought it would be a long way from their homes in Tucson but eventually all agreed because Mount Allison was considered one of nature's wonders and symbolized success for Canadian settlers in Arizona Territory. On November 2nd 1952 Flagstaff incorporation occurred making it one of the newest cities in Arizona with a population of just over 5500 people living within borders famous for mountain ranges like Grand Canyon National Park and Monument Valley NP plus numerous small towns located between Phoenix and Tucsonserving agricultural areas surrounding La Mesa Lake Noatak Village near Winslow Junctionand Gila BendVillages around Saguaro National Monument adding up to some 26 service areas providing goods & services significant enough for businesses ownership & development not just physical infrastructure maintenance or emergency response services like fire departments

The town was named for the American Flag which flew over Fort Sumter in South Carolina during the Civil War. After the end of World War II, the town grew rapidly and soon became a popular tourist destination due to its scenic views, natural resources, and friendly people.
