Eloy is a small town in Apache County, Arizona. The population was 1,478 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Phoenix metropolitan area. The town was named after General Carlos Manuel de Eloy y Costilla y Acosta, who fought in the Mexican-American War and received an honourable mention from Ulysses S. Grant for his actions. The first settler in Eloy was Tomás de la Cueva, who arrived in 1881. As oil exploration began to occur near the town, people increased their presence until there were over 100 residents here by 1912. A post office called "Eloy" was established in 1903, and remained open until it closed in 1957. When World War II began on September 2nd 1941 Eloy had a population of 153 people with only six buildings left standing due to bombing raids by the United States Air Force; all but one of these had been destroyed or damaged within days of the bombings themselves rather than being repaired or rebuilt as necessary under wartime conditions. In 1945 nearby Yuma took control of much of Apache County following Navajo refusal to sign an executive order giving American ranching interests access to their land for military purposes which would have severed their economic ties with Cochise County - this led to a power struggle between Yuma and Apache County authorities that lasted into 1946: while most residents sided with Yuma during the conflict (governor Ewing refused bailouts for either side), some key players such as businessmen Harry Waddell and Cecil Weiser aided Apache County's victory eventually leading to Waddell's impeachment proceedings against Ewing later that year after revelations that he'd been reimbursed for free meals received from county officials during the conflict period).

Eloy is a small town located in Pima County, Arizona. It was founded in 1881 by James H. Eloy and his wife, Sarah Ann. The town has a population of just over 100 people today. The town was named after the Mexican general José de la Peña y Costilla who fought against the United States during the Mexican-American War. In 1898, Eloy became part of the new state of Arizona and was renamed to honor General José de la Peña y Costilla. Eloy's economy has been based on agriculture since its founding and it remains a agricultural community today with over sixty percent of its residents employed in farming or ranching activities. The majority of Eloy's citizens are Hispanic, but there are also some non-Hispanic residents who identify as American Indian or Caucasian (of any race). On July 9th, 1912, Eloy hosted the first modern Cotton Bowl game between Vanderbilt University and Texas A&M University which resulted in a 13-3 victory for Vanderbilt). On December 3rd, 1916, Eloy hosted its first professional football game when New Mexico State played San Manuel High School (later known as Aztec High School) from Tucson. At that time only high school players were allowed to play in organized football games so this game attracted well over 100 spectators to see Santa Fe Normal College play their Alma Mater at Municipal Stadium on Christmas day 1916. On January 18th 1947 the old Municipal Stadium burned down and was replaced by what is now called Nuevo Sportpark which seated around 6500 fans for baseball, basketball and auto races while Municipal Stadium could seat up to 12000 spectators for football games. The original ElOY Arena seats around 15000 fans currently used for concerts/events at Nuevo Sportpark including Diamondbacks home games since arena opened in November 2017
Eloy was founded in 1912 by Francisco Xavier Pacheco and his wife, Juana. The town was named for a mountain peak about 18 miles distant from the present site of Eloy. The Pachecos first explored the area and prospected for gold andsilver in what is now central Arizona. In 1916, they built the first store in Eloy. The Pachecos operated the store until their death in 1951. Their son, Fernando, continued the business after their death. In 1976, Eloy incorporated as a city under the name of Phoenixville.
