After his death in 1951, President Harry S Truman visited Eloy and dedicated a monument honoring MacArthur there. Today, ElOY features several shopping malls including Five Points Mall (opened 1984), University Towne Center (opened 1992), Mesa Hills mall (opened 1997), Chandler Crossing mall (opened 2000) and Scottsdale Village mall (opened 2003). There are also a few small businesses located throughout downtown that serve primarily local residents such as hardware stores and restaurants.The economy of ElOY has been dominated by health care services since its establishment over fifty years ago; however this sector has become increasingly diversified with tourism becoming an important component for local businesses over recent years.
