Eloy is a city in Apache County, Arizona, United States. The population was 7,879 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Phoenix metropolitan area. The ZIP code for Eloy is 85735. They built a mission here on the site of present-day Downtown Eloy and named it San Carlos de Algodon (later shortened to San Carlos). In 1853 the Mexican government granted Rancho San Carlos to George W. Pritchard, who sold it in 1865 to John Wesley Snively and other ranchers including James Sperry and Hiram Lodgepole. In 1897 Jens Jensen started farming here with his family and named their farm "Elvin." He also operated a sawmill that powered an early water turbine system in downtown Eloy. By 1915 there were over 100 businesses in town with over $1 million worth of assets employed therein; many of these businesses still operate today as mom-and-pop operations or are part of larger corporations such as Mesa Trading Company & Co., Pima Electric Cooperative, First National Bank and others. In 1922 Fenton Hargrave started production on an aluminum smelter at nearby Mohawk Dam which led to growth in aluminum production here as well as elsewhere around Prescott Valley until finally ceasing operations due to environmental concerns in the late 1970s; however some small scale aluminum production continued until about 2000 when all local aluminum processing ceased entirely because of high levels of lead found near communities along I-10 near Phoenixville Mills.; Today there are only a few remnant properties left standing from this once large industry; one being the Alma Miller Mill Complex which sits next to Mesa Trading Company & Co., Pima Electric Cooperative on Arizonan Blvd., just east of Old Hwy 16 exit 169A (exit number: 166B) between Old Hwy 16 and US 101/AZ 168B

The following year, it merged with neighboring Payson to form what is now known as Phoenix-Mesa-Payson. During this time period, Eloy experienced significant economic growth thanks to its ties toPhoenix and Mesa County. By 1970, however, economic stagnation had set in and the city began Toexperiencing serious declines in population over ensuing decades. In 1994-95, however, during Governor Janet Napolitano's " revitalization" program for Phoenixites she helped spur redevelopment of downtown areas including Eloy which has since seen significant growth thanks to new businesses and increased tourism dollars coming into town from nearby Scottsdale or Tucson
Eloy was founded in 1885 by Don José Eloy and his brother, Arrigo. The town grew quickly due to the natural resources it had to offer, including coal, oil shale, and uranium. In 1916, Eloy became a municipio (municipal district) with its own government. In 1912, George Washington Carver visited Eloy and pronounced it "the most beautiful place I ever saw." He claimed that the abundance of natural resources here made Eloy an ideal place for farming and noted that the climate was perfect for crop production. The town's growth continued into the 1920s when irrigation systems were established in nearby areas. During this time, businesses started up in the town such as a grocery store and post office. By 1930, there were over 100 businesses in Eloy. During World War II, many jobs were created in the munitions industry in neighboring towns thanks to the war effort. Many people from Eloy went on to work in these factories during wartime. After World War II ended, some residents decided that they no longer wanted their small town feeling like a small village anymore. They started looking for ways to contain population growth so that it would not overwhelm local resources or impair community life. One solution was to establish schools within the municipality limits instead of expanding outside them; this helped keep population size below 1,000 citizens at all times since school enrollments are public records).
