The town saw its peak during World War II when many soldiers from Eloy served in the army or navy stationed here between 1942 and 1945. After the war ended many people left for various reasons including joblessness and economic reverses brought about by the oil embargo of 1973-1974 which greatly increased prices for goods imported into Mexico which had been subsidized by America sinceears. Post offices closed throughout most of Arizona around this time so it can be said that Eloy experienced some significant changes during its history although some aspects have not changed as much such as its location close to Phoenix making it very easy to get around without any sort of public transportation system other than walking or biking which is also easily accessible due to its well-maintained roadsides and sidewalks. Today, Eloy remains a small but vibrant community laden with memories of military service past and present along with current businesses that support local agriculture while still providing jobs for locals including many farmers selling fresh produce at local markets throughout the community day or night
