On December 12, 1916 Eloy became the first town in Apache County when it was created from parts of Cochise and Pima Counties. On July 25, 1932 Eloy was named after General John A. Eloy who had fought in World War I and served as Commanding General of U.S Forces Philippines during the war. On November 4, 1935 a fire destroyed much of downtown before being put out by volunteer firefighters with $5 per hour labor from citizens. In 1938 local oil millionaire Harry Horman donated land to build University Boulevard which became home to Arizona State University (later renamed ASU). On October 31st 1951 an EF-6 tornado touched down just south of town and damaged or destroyed over 50 homes and businesses before finally dissipating about 5 miles northeast of town near Zuni Peak National Monument
Eloy is an unincorporated community in Apache County, Arizona, United States. The population was 1 at the 2010 census. It is located on U.S. Route 66 about north of Phoenix. The first Europeans to visit Eloy were surveyors led by Captain George Humphreys in 1867-68 who named it "Higgins". In 1928, the post office called it "Albuquerque", but changed it to its current name in 1951 due to the nearby city of Albuquerque's growing population. The town was founded as a cattle ranch by ranchers James and Evalyn McDowell in 1912 and continued to be run as such until their death in 1945; their children continued to run the ranch until 1957. It then passed through two hands before being purchased by the townsite development corporation formed in 1968 which developed it into what it is today with a small grocery store, school, doctor, fire extinguisher sales place, and other small businesses added over time including a gas station and motel on Interstate 825 east of town which opened in 1978). A post office called Eloy was established at this location on July 14, 1951, and remained open until November 5th of that year when mail was transferred to Phoenix under Operation Overlord because of World War II bombings there; Eloy had been bombed many times during the war years. The community has since experienced several name changes - most notably from Albuquerque (1928) to Phoenix (1987), Tucson (1991), Mesa (1996), Chandler (1999), Gilbert (2003), Queen Creek (2005) and finally Eloy again after 2006 Census data showed an increase (+5%) in residentry there made possible by growth along Interstate 825 near downtownPhoenix making much of the old rural area within minutes' driving distance forties or less now enjoys access to high-speed I-825 transportation options like hotels/motels/restaurants etc., thus avoiding some of Phoenix' more crowded neighborhoods while maintaining some degree of detachment from city life

Eloy is a town in Pinal County, Arizona, United States. The population was 2,463 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Phoenix metropolitan area. The name Eloy comes from Spanish "el ojo" meaning "the eye". The first European to visit what is now Eloy was Father Francisco Xavier García de San Miguel who arrived on horseback on October 12, 1765 and named it after his patron saint, St. Francis Xavier. On July 16, 1821 a group of Mormon pioneers searching for the Santa Fe Trail discovered el campamento de los indios y founded what would become Tucson in central Arizona. In 1827 Manuel Bonilla sold land at Tanque Verde to Juan Bautista Villalobos who platted the town of Eloy on May 20th, 1828 It was not until 1885 when new settlers arrived and erected the first schoolhouse which served as community center until it burned down in 1907 . A new schoolhouse was built in 1912 which still stands today serving as a museum with exhibits about early life and local history including artifacts from Eloy’s founding until 1957 when it burned again In 1911 an irrigation system was commissioned by Irrigation District No. 1 of Pinal County just outside of town to provide water for small farmers near Tucson A post office called Kimball opened in 1913 and remained open until 1959 The railroad reached Eloy by way of Jerome Avenue crossing over during construction of Interstate 10 between Phoenix and Tucson on December 5th 1909 . Shortly after opening service it went into receivership due to financial difficulties caused by weather-related problems within its own tracks One possible explanation for why this occurred may have been that no one wanted railroads running through their communities so close together especially since there were plenty of other places people could go if things didn't work out . Passenger trains stopped running southbound between Phoenix and Tucson on April 6th 1920 because Of budget cuts resulting from World War I however freight train service continued uninterrupted all the way up through 1925 After that events took place more closely related to geography with oil production making Wayman Oil Corporation (later Enron) one such company interested in developing southern Arizonan resources
