In 1875, Eloy was the first town in Arizona to have a public library. The Eloy Public Library is one of the oldest and most popular libraries in the Phoenix area. In 1904, the city of Phoenix built its first water tower, which served as a model for later public water systems. In 1916, Phoenix annexed Eloy, making it part of the city’s territory. The City Council decided that guns should not be stored on property within city limits and decided to ban all handguns from city streets by 1920. In 1933, prohibition ended in Arizona when Gov. Al Jolson signed into law An Act to Regulate Firearms and Amusement Devices (Public Law 89-482). This law established regulations governing firearms and amusement devices in Arizona. The City Council voted to repeal gun ordinances repealed by Al Jolson in 1933 because they did not meet state requirements for civilian firearm ownership set forth by An Act to Regulate Firearms and Amusement Devices (Public Law 89-482). These requirements included: that citizens must present a license or registration card issued by the police department when purchasing or possessing an unloaded handgun; that no person under 21 years old may possess a handgun; that handguns must be stored unloaded at home; and that pistols must be kept locked up at all times while not in use. Gun owners who were happy with these regulations changed their behavior after World War II when ammo became more affordable due to rationing policies implemented during the war effort. After hostilities ended, many peopleifacts such as handguns were taken from storage locations within cities such as Eloy where they remained unrighteously hidden for many years until they were finally made available for purchase throughout much of California during the late 1990s through civil forfeiture proceedings initiated by sheriff’s departments across Sonora County following gun confiscations conducted pursuant to Gun Control Laws enacted during this time period

When the town of Eloy was founded in 1911, it was a part of the Apache Nation. The town's first store was built on the corner of Second and Santa Fe Streets. In 1912, the town annexed to Payson County and its first post office was established at Third Street and Belle Vista Avenue. The following year, 1913, Eloy became a city when it merged with Payson County. In 1919, the United States Post Office moved from Third Street to Fourth Street in downtown Eloy after being destroyed by fire. In 1923, an addition to First National Bank building were added on Elmira Place which served as City Hall until 1951 when the building was lost in a fire. In 1925-1926, some new construction were done on Elmira Place including a school and police station. In 1928-1929, Gifford Lumber Company constructed two apartment buildings at Seventh and Duncan Streets which became known as "the towers". In 1931-1932, newly constructed water tower were erected on top of hotel/motel located at Eighth and Harrison Streets which later served as city hall before being demolished in 2003. In 1937-1938 there was additional construction done on Elmira Place including a library (now called "Eloy Public Library") and city jail (now used for storage). On October 25th 1938 during World War II local residents gathered around their homes to watch Japanese bombers fly over their town providing air defense against American planes that had been attacking Pearl Harbor three days earlier

Eloy is a small city in Pinal County, Arizona, United States. The population was 2,063 at the 2010 census. The name of the original founders may have been inspired by Spanish explorer Francisco Vázquez de Arana's expedition which reached what is now Tucson on August 29, 1684. According to local legend, when Apache Chief Cochise attacked Eloy during his notorious April Fool's Day raid into Apache Territory in 1886, one of Eloy's citizens named John Wesley Snively ran toward Cochise with a large bagful of coins to offer as ransom for his friend's life or property; however Cochise shot Snively dead before he could reach him. This event is widely considered to be the beginning of peace between the two groups despite continuing conflicts until well after World War II. The community declined following World War II but rebounded thanks to its role as a processing center for newly developed agricultural products brought over from California by truckloads during that period. Today many businesses located near downtown continue to thrive due to their proximity to natural resources such as water wells and coal seams found nearby; these businesses include restaurants such as Red Lobster and Chipotle Mexican Grill as well as fabric stores such as Sears and JCPenney. In recent years there has been increased development around Eloy Center including several high-rise apartment towers that have helped spur economic growth within the city limits while also improving access to public transportation options closer to downtown; this development has led some residents concerned about traffic congestion and air quality issues created by vehicles traveling through downtown at high speeds during peak hours
