One of the most iconic sights in Arizona is the Eloy Gunsight, which sits atop a hill on the city's eastside. The sight was first set up by Captain John Hartsfield in 1892 and has been Operator's Mate Second Class Wally Bushnell's home since 1951. The gunsight is one of just a few remaining operating targets in central Eloy, and it is still used for target practice. The history of the Eloy Gunsight can be traced back to 1892 when Captain John Hartsfield erected the first gunsight in central Eloy as part of his efforts to improve artillery fire from nearby Fort Sill. At that time, there were no proper sights available for use with handguns, so Hartsfield designed and built his own sights specifically for use with firearms. His original design featured three rotating circles that allowed shooters to adjust their aim quickly and easily. In 1951, Wally Bushnell became Operator's Mate Second Class at theEloy Gunsight and continues to operate it today as one of only a few operational targets left in central Eloy.Bushnell has been using the sight to practice shooting at targets ever since he learned how to use it himself more than 50 years ago. Eloy is a small town in Pinal County, Arizona, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tucson metropolitan area. The community dates back to 1881 when James Waddell and his family moved from Prescott to what is now Eloy after purchasing land east of the Chiricahua Mountains. The first post office in Eloy was established in 1887 and named for George Washington Carver who had died two years earlier. In 1916, the town incorporated as a village and held its first election that year. Eloy's economy depends on agriculture with an annual production of hay, tomatoes, apples, oranges, wheat and other grains. Manufacturing includes a few light manufacturing businesses such as tires and home goods; however most jobs are related to farming or ranching which account for over 60% of economic output. According to the 2010 census, there are also five churches in Eloy with three Evangelical Lutheran (EK) congregations along with one Jewish synagogue which serves as a cultural center for the surrounding community; all five churches have been around since before 1910. There are no schools within Eloy itself but nearby Tucson has several comprehensive public high schools serving grades 9-12 including Chaparral High School which opened in 2006 adjacent to new shopping malls built by former Mesa County Mayor Kevin Faulconer; Gila River Indian Community (GRC) School District No.; Phoenix Christian Schools (PCHS), Scottsdale Unified School District No.; Apache Junction Unified School District No.;and Surprise Valley Unified School District No., making it one of largest school districts served by private schools outside of New York City or Los Angeles. In addition there are numerous private academies located throughout Pinal County providing basic educational opportunities not found within public school systems nationwide like Montessori Nursery schools open up until 4th grade followed by Head Start programs K-2 through 12th grade followed by homeschooling options starting kindergarten through 8th grade totaling more than 100 accredited programs teaching children from pre-kindergarten through high school graduation levels across many different disciplines including music education/instrumental performance arts & vocal lessons/voice choir/dance classes/math & science classes/urban farm programming summer day camp services). As per recent Census figures released by them self: according to “2010 American Demographics” report prepared by NORC Center for Public Opinion Research at University Of Chicago Booth College report shows Tucson’s population growth rate outpacing that of Phoenix – 3%) this past decade alone reaching 7 million people! What kind of future do we want for our towns? We need more infrastructure development - roads needed repaired or replaced; better water supply; more affordable housing developments available especially near job centers; More businesses downtown open late hours so folks can get involved in local economies rather than just sit at home watching TV all night long! And finally rural families need access to health care services not only during regular working hours but also overnight when necessary dueTo lack thereof many patients may turn towards urban areas seeking care instead! According Eloy has seen population growth rates exceed those found in neighboring Phoenix (+3%), Tucson (+7%), Gilbert (+5%), Chandler (+4%) and Glendale (+2%). WhilePhoenix continues experiencing rapid growth Rate has slowed down significantly (-10% between 2000-2010) reducing competition for jobs both inside city limits AND outside city limits limiting job opportunities for young adults & adults entering middle age-. Aurora Village saw significant decrease (-14%) from 2009-2011 while Tempe experienced an increase (+9%)

Eloy is a small town in the Phoenix metropolitan area, located about 25 miles east of downtown Phoenix. The population was 17,471 at the 2010 census. It is one of the most agricultural communities in Arizona and has been home to many ranchers and farmers for over 100 years. The town was founded by John Wesley Powell in 1869 as a stagecoach stop on his journey from Prescott to Tucson. In 1892, Eloy became part of what would become the Navajo Nation and Gila River Valley Railroad. In 1924, the town incorporated as a municipality. The first mayor was Wm Halsey Martin. In 1928, Eloy hosted the first United States presidential debate between Franklin D Roosevelt and Alfred Landon. Roosevelt won with 332 electoral votes (out of 438 cast), while Landon received 227 electoral votes (out of 254 cast). After World War II ended, Eloy grew rapidly as an agricultural community thanks to increased farming opportunities due to irrigation systems created by Union Pacific Railway engineers. After enactment of the National Agricultural Act in 1946, these new benefits led to an increase in business activity in Eloy and other agricultural communities throughout Arizona. This growth continued until 1990 when deregulation of agriculture caused a slowdown in economic growth across much of Arizona
Eloy was founded in 1907 by two ranchers, George and Florence Eloy. The town was named after José María Eloy, a Mexican general who fought in the American War of Independence. The first post office opened in 1909. In 1912, the city had a population of 582 people. By 1913, the population had grown to 1,161 people and by 1916 it had reached 2,169 people. In 1917, the City Council voted to name the city after General Pershing because of his leadership during World War I. In 1922, a gas station was built in town and operated until 1965. A large cotton gin was also built in 1922 and still operates today as an agricultural production facility. In 1925, four businesses were established: an insurance company (later merged into Citizens National Bank), a barbershop (later closed down), a grocery store (now known as "The Food Lion"), and a sawmill (which is now active).
