The city became a major railroad center during the 1920s and 1930s due to its location near Phoenix and Tucson Railroad yards. In 1959, Goodyear City merged with Eloy to form Eloy-Goodyear City Combined Statistical Area (CSA).

It is close to the Mexican border. The first people to live in what is now Eloy were those who came overland during the Gold Rush in 1849. They were followed by Mexicans who settling there in large numbers around 1860. In 1912, the town was named after American general and cavalry officer John W. Eloy who had died that year while serving with distinction in Mexico City during the Dreyfus Affair. There are several hundred ranchers and farmers living in Eloy today; many of whom have been here since before it became incorporated as a city in 1959. The downtown area has become one of the busiest areas on the centralPhoenix-Mesa corridor due to its variety of businesses including restauraunts, hotels and shopping centers along with clusters of bars and restaurants near most major highways that run through town - making it easy for people to get around without having to leave their homes or go out into remote rural areas. The mayor at present is Rick Martinez with Jason Haughey serving as his Vice Mayor

Eloy, Arizona is a small town located in the Phoenix metropolitan area. The population was 9,859 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Eloy Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in what is now Eloy were the Hohokam who arrived about 2,000 years ago. They built their village on an island in Lake Havasu and made use of natural resources such as fish and water buffalo for food and clothing. The first white person to reside in Eloy was James Aitken who came wagon train from Oregon in 1864. He built a cabin near present-day Apache Junction and named it "Aitken's Fort." In 1912, oil was discovered at Apache Pass which led to a boomtown development called "Apache Hills". By 1920, most of the businesses had closed due to lack of business opportunities or harsh weather conditions. However, some residents continued tolive there until after World War II when industry returned with increased demand for housing and jobs in Phoenix. During World War II, many Japanese Americans living in central Phoenix went into hiding during the war because they were uncertain about their future under American occupation. Some members of the community decided to stay behind after the war ended primarily because they wanted to resume their normal lives without fear of discrimination or persecution from authorities. In 1948, when Arizona became a state, many residents left Eloy for various reasons including political instability and economic hardship brought on by recession following World War II. Many families moved away because they could not find work or affordable housing that met their needs while others chose not to leave despite facing increasing racism throughout much of America following World War II%. As time passed however, race did play an important role in how people viewed life within their own community especially given howPhoenix had become one of largest cities in America by then with more than two million residents; many people chose not to move permanently based upon this new reality). From 1981-1984 (during which time Phoenix experienced significant growth), local officials began negotiations for annexation by Phoenix proper but no agreement was reached due largely to disagreements over land usage/ division among city officials along with allegations that developers were seeking preferential treatment from city leaders concerned about potential competition from nearby Mesa and Scottsdale . Ultimately annexation proposals were withdrawn due largely to concerns over public backlash should Chandler gain control over similar territory east of Interstate 10 . After almost 30 years delay finally occurred on November 15th 1997 when City Council approved annexing portions of Mesa County surrounding Eloy making it official . Today nearly all citizens within Eloy are descendants of those who originally lived there with few exceptions being recent arrivals drawn here through family relationships rather than forced migration
Eloy was founded on April 15, 1912 by José (Joe) and Lola Ortiz. The town grew rapidly due to the production of oil and gas in the area. On February 1, 1944, Eloy became a city.
