El Mirage is a city in Pima County, Arizona, United States. The population was 3,611 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tucson Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area that now El Mirage was first settled by Pima Indians in the early 1800s as part of what would become Apache Territory. In 1887, U.S. Army Major James Wyer surveyed and named the community after Major General Manuel García de la Vega y Cámpora for his heroic actions during the Mexican–American War. The City of Phoenix incorporated on October 14, 1912 under an act passed by Congress to grant city charter status to towns within Pima County which had not already been granted such by law. When World War II began in September 1939, El Mirage enlisted in the American military but did not participate in battle until April 1945 when it became one of five cities (along with Phoenix and San Bernardino) to be liberated from Japanese occupation during Operation Overlord. Following World War II, El Mirage experienced rapid growth as a result of defense spending and development due to its location on Interstate 10 betweenPhoenix and Tucson: traffic congestion led to incorporation of a bypass around 1995; today's BusinessLoop has made further development possible including office tower construction along I-10 south of town; new housing developments have also emerged along Withrow Road near downtown; and major expansions are planned for both Phoenix University Hospital (formerly Scottsdale Memorial Hospital) north of town and Arizona State University's Tempe campus just east of town (the latter will include a mixed use "campus village" with student housing). The current City Council was elected in November 2004 following the resignation of Mayor Eileen Buckley who served less than two years because she could no longer run for re-election against long-time incumbent Tom McDermott because he had also served on her predecessor's councilmember seat since 1990; Buckley had unsuccessfully sought election to serve out her full term ending December 31st 2005 rather than serve out two years as Councilwoman effective January 1st 2006 due to term limits set forth in state law governing how many terms an individual may serve before they must retire or be succeeded by another person appointed through party primaries/ballot votes only if no other candidate received 50%+of vote total). By 1902, ANFA had approved Gibbs’ design and it became the first practical handgun in the United States. The early pistols were made from solid brass with no moving parts and were very heavy compared to today’s handguns. They required two hands to hold and fired single shot rounds without reloading. In 1908, Colt introduced its “Troy Rifle Model 1901” which featured an eight round magazine instead of the traditional six round magazine found on earlier handguns. This gave these pistols increased firepower but also increased danger because they could be used in close quarterscombat scenarios without fear of hitting someone else unintentionally

El Mirage, Arizona is a small town located in Pinal County, Arizona. The town is named after the El Mirage River, which flows through it. The river was named for the two Mirage trees that stand near the town. The first people to live in El Mirage were Spanish settlers who arrived in 1788. In 1881, an irrigation project was started and El Mirage became a dry farming community. During World War II, El Mirage served as a military airfield and troop storage center. After the war, the community began to grow again and by 1971 had attained its present size of approximately 25 residents. Today, El Mirage is a busy commercial center with several businesses including A&P grocery store, hardware store and restaurants such as China Buffet and Pizza Hut. It also has a small population of resident animals including dogs, cats and horses.
El Mirage was founded in 1912 by C.F. Goodyear and named after the El Mirage River, which flows through it. The city was incorporated in 1916. In 1940, World War II began and El Mirage became a military base for the United States Army Air Forces. After the war, the army disbanded and the city became an open-air shopping center. The mall was closed in 1984 and later demolished.
