El Mirage is a small city in Pinal County, Arizona, United States. The population was 3,812 at the 2010 census. El Mirage is part of the Phoenix metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit what is now El Mirage were Spanish explorers on their trip to Cochise County in 1828. A fort was built there by the U.S. Army in 1839 and it became an outpost for horse traders travelling from Fort Mojave down the Mogollon Rim Trail to trade with Apache Indians living along that route. In 1847, Mexico ceded California to the United States and Mexican land east of the Gila River became part of Arizona Territory; this included most of what is now Pinal County except for a tiny corner near present-day Glendale Heights. In 1863, during the American Civil War, General John Custer's Seventh Cavalry Regiment came through El Mirage on its way upriver to fight at Gila River Bridge over which military supplies had been sent downriver before Union forces moved into Arizona Territory arriving two weeks later;[1] as a result of this battle and others fought during that year across much of Arizona (and also Nevada), Pinal County was formed within Arizona Territory (which eventually became California) as well as being given its own government: it boundaries are still mostly defined by those fateful battlefield lines today.[2][3] In 1875, whenphe started growing corn and hay on his property southeast of town but did not sell any product until 1886 because he could not find buyers who would come out West to buy his products due to the railroad construction nearby cutting off access from Eastern markets. That year he partnered with George Atherton who bought his share in 1886 afterphe died suddenly aged only 44 years old leaving behind four children including their father’s widow Rosalie Atherton Canby who ran the business together until 1947 when she sold it all back to her son George Canby Jr.. In 1897 Atherton erected a brick building known as “The Temple” which served as headquarters for both him and Rosalie from then until their death in 1947 although they left instructions that no one was ever allowed inside without written consent from both parents or guardian;[4] inside are some photos remains from that era including one dated 1907 showing two women working side-by-side adjacent stalls selling groceries next door while children played outside between vendors setting up tables with food

El Mirage is a small town in far eastern Arizona. It was founded in 1907 by Mexicans who had come to the area as part of the Chaco War. The town quickly prospered, and by 1912 it had a school, a grocery store, and two churches. In 1916, El Mirage became an incorporated city. During World War II, the town was home to what is now known as the El Mirage Air Force Base. The base was used for training American pilots during the war. The town declined during the postwar years but began to rebound in the late 1960s when it became home to several large companies including Allstate Insurance and Mesa Commerce Bank. In 1984, El Mirage voted to become an independent city again. Today, El Mirage is a thriving community with many businesses and residents that are committed to their community values such as diversity, collaboration, hard work ethic, and family-friendly atmosphere.
In the early 1800s, El Mirage was home to a small Native American village. Thevillage was abandoned in the 1830s when Mormons began traveling through the area and trading with local Indians. In 1881,the Mormon Battalion set up camp at El Mirage for winter storage. A year later, they abandonthecamp and moved on to Wasatch Lake. A few years later,they built a fort at what is now known as Black Mesa Canyon. In 1912, El Mirage became part of the United States after it was acquired from Mexico by Congress pursuant to the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The following year, it incorporated as a city under the name of Phoenix. The post office at El Mirage opened in 1913 and continued operation until 1959. The first mayor of Phoenix was Harry Chandler; he served two terms (1913-1915). The first City Council were elected in 1917; they held three terms total (1917-1920). A new courthouse was completed in 1918 and replaced an earlier building that had been destroyed in a fire. It operated until 1969 when it burned down; it reopened as Biltmore Courts after being rebuilt by Tempe Municipal Services Department.' In 1936, Phoenix annexed Growth Valley which became part of Phoenix proper.; growth valley became known as East Valley after its annexation
