When the El Mirage Industrial Park was created in 1933, it was the largest industrial park in Arizona. The area consisted of over 2,000 acres and became home to a number of industries including munitions manufacturers, aluminum smelters, and other heavy industry. In 1942, the United States Army Corps of Engineers built a series of dams on the El Mirage River to create Lake Mead. This created an impoundment that allowed for the growth of industry at El Mirage. At its peak in 1951, El Mirage had over 100 businesses employing over 1,500 people. The growth of industries at El Mirage led to a increase in pollution and noise levels. As a result, the city council implemented air quality regulations in 1977 that limited emissions from factories and workplaces within city limits. These regulations continued until 1990 when they were repealed due to increased environmental concerns within the city. Since then, efforts have been made by community organizations to revive manufacturing activity within El Mirage while also reducing pollution levels. Today, El Mirage is known as an important center for Manufacturing research and development due to its location near major universities and companies alike. The city has also worked to promote tourism as an economic driver within its boundaries which has helped improve overall revenue generation for both local businesses and government coffers.

El Mirage is an Arizona city located in the Phoenix metropolitan area. As of the 2010 census, El Mirage had a population of 29,521. The city was founded in 1912 and named after the El Mirage Canyon. It is located on the banks of the Salt River and is bounded by Anthem Township to the east, Scottsdale to the west, Yuma County to the north and south, and Apache Junction to the southeast. The first settlers arrived in 1912 and built a log cabin on what is now White Sands Drive. In 1916 they established a post office at what is now Heard Park Road and began trading goods with Prescott. By 1922 they had erected a schoolhouse which served as a community center until it burned down in 1951. A new school was built on present-day Indian School Road in 1929 which became home to local high schools until it closed in 2002. In 1932 construction began on what would become El Mirage Airport; this would serve as Phoenix's primary airport for over fifty years before being replaced by Sky Harbor International Airport later that year. After World War II El Mirage saw growth with many businesses opening up including several banks along White Sands Drive including First National Bank (later acquired by Wells Fargo) which still operates out of its building today. The town also experienced some development with Housing Authority homes being constructed around Indian School Road while other housing developments were established near US Airways Arena Boulevard and I-10 West (now Loop 101). These projects are no longer extant but their remnants can be seen scattered throughout downtownEl Mirage today thanks to preservation efforts initiated by city officials over time During 1970s there was significant growth when Mesa Verde College opened up shop in downtownEl Mirage under then Mayor Tom Wirthman before moving out permanently into Mesa campus buildings next door two years later In 1990 City Councilwoman Janice Lambrew designated portions of downtown as arts districts providing incentives for businesses within those areas to expand into artistic endeavors such as music concerts/festivals etc This designation allowed for more cultural activity within DowntownElmiran presence even if certain storefronts remain vacant today One example of an Arts District property currently standing vacant is CJ’s Pizza across from Mayo Clinic off First Street just east of Monument Avenue

By 1912, El Mirage had become a full-fledged community with its own hospital and school. In 1915, a express train station was built to serve the growing community; it remains operational today as El Mirage Airport (IATA: ELR). In 1951, when Pinal County became a realignment of Arizona counties, El Mirage became part of Cochise County. However, because Cochise County is bordered by Mexico on three sides and contains some Mexican ruins there are no buildings or sites from early San Bernardino period that can be found at present within El Mirage limits but evidence shows early habitation here dating back to 8th century A.D.] On March 3rd 1902 George Irvine donated land east of Highway 73 to become what would later be named "Irvine Ranch" which now includes most of downtown El Mirage. On October 26th 1908 Moville Eldredge founded what would later become known as Empire Oil Company Limited out of this ranchland west of I-10 near today's Vista del Apache Boulevard and north/northwest of Enterprise Road (now SR 84). In 1909 Empire Oil Company leased 10 acres northeast corner Indian School Rd., east side Of US 95 (today's Alhambra Blvd.), from John Wesley Powell for $5 per acre ($ in 2019 prices) making it one of only five leasehold parcels remaining from original donation plus future annexation from Cochise county! This parcel also included current site where Empire Oil Co building still stands today! Today old Empire Oil Building property becomes Historic garage lot next door to Wright House Museum
El Mirage was founded in 1912 by a group of ranchers led by Don C. El Mirage. The community developed around a post office, grocery store, and cotton gin. By the early 1920s, it had become an agricultural center with over 100 businesses. In 1924, the town incorporated as a municipality and began to Expand. The first major expansion came in 1928 when the town annexed the neighboring community of Paulding. This addition brought new homes, businesses, and infrastructure to El Mirage. Another expansion followed in 1936 when the town annexed the neighboring community of Morrison Heights. This addition increased population size by another 50%. In 1948, El Mirage became one of Arizona's first cities when it merged with its sister city of Phoenixville Sounds. After years of growth and development, El Mirage reached its current size in 1959 when it annexed Ahwatukee County. Today, El Mirage is home to over 45 thousand people who live within its boundaries and generate $8 billion annually in economic activity
