El Mirage, Arizona is home to the El Mirage Gun Club. The club was founded in 1898 and has been meeting monthly ever since. The club has over 200 members and meets at different locations around town. It is also one of the few gun clubs in the Phoenix area that allows members to shoot pistols without a license. The El Mirage Gun Club is responsible for several historical items within the city. One of these items is their original pistol magazine which was established in 1898. At first, magazines were simply folded up banners withGunnery on one side and Pistol on the other. As time passed, some of the early members decided to start printing their own magazines as well- this led to an even more prolific production schedule for those mags! One of the earliest publications from El Mirage was "Cattleman" which was published every week from October 1st through March 15th. This publication featured articles on cattle, horseback riding and all things related to country life at that time. The Elk City Times followed suit soon after with a weekly print run starting on July 15th known as "Cowboy". Both publications were published by Samuel Hirsch & Son until 1903 when they merged into another publishing company under new management which would continue until 1912 when both publications ceased publication altogether due to frequent financial problems (likely due to Prohibition). In 1911, responsibility for producing both magazines fell upon Harry Ahern who continued running them until his death in 1978! After Harry Ahern's death, various owners took over running both publications before finally being purchased by Joe Giannini in 1984 who continued publish till his death in 1994. From 1984-1994 there were only 4 issues per year printed- however recent editions have seen an increase of 8 issues per year! Brent McClure continues publishing today as publisher for Ammo Unlimited Magazine which currently publishes 16 issues per year!

El Mirage is a small town in Arizona, located just east of the Grand Canyon. The population was 2,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Phoenix metropolitan area. The name El Mirage comes from Fremont Indian Chief "Sneeze" and his wife "Morn" (a possible Native American maiden name). At first they called their settlement by this name because it was all that could be found in the vicinity. In 1875, Colonel George Armstrong Custer and his Seventh Cavalry were Regiment moved to this area from Fort Sumner and camps were established on both banks of the Verde River. In 1912, a group of investors decided to purchase 640 acres (258 ha) around what is now El Mirage for $1 million dollars. They named their new community after General James W. Cooke who had been killed in action at Bull Run in 1861 while leading an infantry unit under Major General Zachary Taylor during the American Civil War. General Cooke's body was never recovered and his remains are still missing today. A local legend has it that General Cooke's ghost still haunts certain parts of El Mirage including Cache Creek Park and Mesa Verde National Monument where he purportedly committed suicide over 20 years ago when frustrated with life as a military leader in an age when such risks were no longer taken. In 1954, two brothers by the name of Kirkpatrick bought land adjacent to what is now El Mirage Boulevard for $6,000 dollars which they used as their personal rancho until 1956 when they developed a shopping center there which became one of Phoenix's most popular tourist destinations with millions visit each year until its closure in 2003 due to redevelopment pressures within the city limits adjacent thereto by Tempe Union High School District No 1.. A campaign launched by then-Mayor Phil Donahue to Save Our Airfields brought attention to El Mirage AFB which slowly lost its Ted Stevens Airport designation but stopped being classified as an airfield after 9/11/2001 following changes made to airport boundaries within Tempe City Limits without public input or notification; however Atlas Air Cargo continued using runway 6L for cargo operations until its closure on July 15th 2009 due to low traffic levels combined with economic conditions led by Paloma Village Inc., owner and operator thereof since 1989; eventually ending up moving all operations onto runways 12R/28L #1 & #2 at Wright-Patterson AFB effective August 29th 2009; Atlas also ceased ground operation effective October 3rd 2009 having served primarily as storage facilities for other airlines operating out of nearby Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport since then The amount spent annually on storing materials handling avionics associated with these departing aircraft has exceeded $100 million making it one of largest single purchases ever made outside government hands at any airport outside Washington Dsseldorf Germany

El Mirage was founded by Mormon pioneers in 1887 as a trading post on the Gila River. The city's first store opened in 1889 and its first post office was established in 1890. The name "El Mirage" came from two words: el (a place) and mirage (a warning). In 1912, local ranchers decided to rename the city for their then- Rancho Mirage which included most of what is now El Mirage. In 1922, the City Council granted incorporation to El Mirage and voted to change its name to "Phoenix". The original City Hall building still stands today next to Community Bank & Trust Company on North Seventh Street within walking distance of most of the businesses in downtown Phoenix. In 1926, Phoenix annexed much of Pinal County including El Mirage making it an incorporated town with its own government and police force separate from that of Phoenix proper. During World War II, many American servicemen served aboard U-boats patrolling waters near Tucson before they were transferred back home via railcar to Camp McCain outside Scottsdale where they underwent training before being sent overseas into combat against Japan. Some soldiers stayed longer than expected and fought off Japanese forces ashore at Atchison Island using handmade rifles salvaged from sunken warships during World War II while others simply deserted or left without reporting for duty because there were no opportunities for military service after Pearl Harbor . A Memorandum From President Franklin D Roosevelt dated 7 December 1941 announcing that all women must register for Selective Service formed a major issue during the 1946 campaign season when liberals wanted more women into Congress but fewer into positions of power due to their equal qualifications as men
El Mirage was founded in 1912 by the father of modern El Mirage, James H. Elmirage. The town was named for a small creek that ran through it, and the first post office was established in 1915. In 1916, the first electric light system was installed in El Mirage and in 1937, a water supply system was built. In 1957, the city of Phoenix incorporated El Mirage as its own municipality. The following year, the city annexed neighboring towns of Goodyear and Mesa to form a larger metropolitan area called "Phoenix". As part of Phoenix' growth into an international city, elmirage became an important transportation hub with access to both Interstate 10 and I-870. In recent years however, elmirage's retail industry has been shrinking as more people move to other parts of Arizona or outside the state altogether. Today there are only a few businesses located within elmirage itself remaining: a gas station and convenience store on Center Street, one restaurant on North Road near Loop 825 (the old route used by Route 66), and two homes which serve as community centers for residents of adjacent townships
