Work stopped only because war began and refineries became necessary across the country! Today most residents are retirees or work in nearby Phoenix or Tucson with one family still farming on property dating back over 100 years ago. There are also several stores in town including two gas stations (one since closed), three restaurants, two banks (one since merged into another bank) and a movie theater which show films Friday nights from 7:00pm until midnight during school hours; however, no theme park has ever been built here so visitors must either come for short trips or stay all day long if they want to do something other than drive around looking for things! It's not hard to find something going on locally even though you may be rare enough to find an actual person who knows about it- just ask someone out for dinner tonight!

However, no action took place until after World War II when El Mirage became an important base for the military during the war effort on behalf of both America and Japan. After 1945, business activity revived although some residents shifted away because they found more comfortable living near Phoenix or Tucson. The population reached 2,000 by 1960 but declined to 1,829 as of 2010 due largely to commuting costs from Phoenix and Tucson as well as loss of jobs related to defense spending during the wars years (the last few decades have seen growth). However, recent annexations within Apache County have led to new growth potential for El Mirage – including annexation into Mesa and Pinal Counties – while preserving its unique character.
