The Douglas Rifle Stock Company was founded in 1903 by George Douglas. The company manufactured rifles and shotguns. In 1907, the company became a subsidiary of Winchester Repeating Arms Company. In 1916, the company merged with Remington Arms Company to form Winchester-Remington Firearms Corporation. The name of the company was changed to Winchester Arms and Ammunition Corporation in 1928. The company produced ammunition from 1892 until 1975. It is now a subsidiary of One World Trade Organization (OWT).

Douglas, Arizona is a small town in Pima County, Arizona. The population was 2,968 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tucson-Mesa-Scottsdale metropolitan area. Douglas was founded in 1906 by miners who were moving from New Mexico. The name Douglas comes from the Ojibwe word "douglas" meaning 'a place where two rivers meet'. The mining industry stopped in the early 1920s and Douglas became a farming town. In 1954, it became county seat of Pima County after Maricopa County was split into two districts. The population grew rapidly during the late 1970s and 1980s asindustrial development began nearby in Phoenix and Mesa. By 2000, Douglas had lost most of its industry and was only Islet Beach remaining with some fishing continuing until recently. Today, Douglas is a small community that supports agriculture and tourism as well as serving as an important stop on the Hualapai Indian Reservation for people travelling to Apache Junction or Flagstaff AZ

As shooters became better educated, they began to realize that accuracy was key in war. This led to the development of Riflestocks specifically designed for military use. These stocks featured higher buttstocks and thicker barrels to reduce recoil and improve shooting accuracy. Many times these stocks were also equipped with cheekpiece or muzzle brakes to help reduce aiming errors caused by poor gripping techniques. During World War II, Riflestocks became an even more important part of military arsenals as ammunition became increasingly scarce and expensive. The high-quality barrels and buttocks that had been developed for target use during World War I began to be put into service with artillery pieces such as the M1 Garand rifle. This gave rise to another type of Riflestock called a “bronze bore” Stock which was often used on artillery pieces such as tanks, bombers, and anti-aircraft guns. Bronze bores were harder than those made from steel so they could resist damage from Bullets and other projectiles while still providing good shooting performance (Figure 1). Ammunition shortages continued into World War II however, leading to a greater demand for new types of Riflestocks (Figure 2). One such type was called a “stainless steel” barrel stock which was designed specifically for sniper rifles like the M1 Garand (Figure 3). Stainless Steel Barrel Stocks provided increased durability against corrosion or environmental abuse compared to bronze bores which could rust or corrode under normal usage (Figure 4). Additionally, stainless steel barrel stocks allowed for installation of optics systems without havingto remove any components fromthe firearm( Figure 5 ). Although this innovative feature was not widely adopted until after WWII due in part to its prohibitive cost ($5K per barrel), it remains an interesting footnote in rifle stock history nonetheless!
There is a long and varied rifle stock history, starting with simple stocks designed to hold one or two rounds. As firearms became more complex, the need for larger stocks was created in order to allow for greater accuracy and capacity. Eventually, these bigger stocks would be replaced by heavier barrel assemblies that could support increased ammunition loads.

The railroad arrived to Douglas in 1898 and by 1904 it had reached its peak with passenger service transporting goods and people to central Phoenix from Douglas and points east. In 1917 the railroads were merged into the Southern Pacific Company which left Douglas demise as an important city until Amtrak arrived in 1974 and revived commuter service to the city center from downtown residents including many working at Grand Canyon National Park or other attractions close by outside of walking or driving distances from their homes.
Douglas was a small town in the Apache territory on the east side of the Pinal River in 1912. It was named after Captain John Douglas, an American Fur trader who had been killed by Apaches in 1869. The post office was established in 1911, and the first store opened in 1913. The area around Douglas was known for its wild horses and cattle, which were raised here. The town became a railroad center during the 1920s, with two locomotives passing through it each day. In 1970, Douglas merged with neighboring Payson to form a new city.
