Holsters have been around for centuries and are a part of many cultures. Douglas, Arizona is home to one of the first holster companies in the United States, The Colt Holster Company. The company was started by two friends, John Coltsbury and Samuel Colt in 1857. Colt handguns were soon being sold throughout the eastern United States and Canada. In 1861, Samuel Colt decided to move his business to Douglas, Arizona Territory. The company continued to grow and make holsters for a variety of firearms including revolvers and shotguns. In 1869, Colt Firearms moved back into their original location in Douglas with an addition of a store on the north side of town which became known as “The Armory”. This building still stands today and provides ample space for customers to try out different holsters before purchasing one. In 1911, The ColtHolsterCompany merged with another holster company called Browning Firearms Corporation (BFC). At this time BFC became known as Browning-Hancock Firearms Corporation (BHC). During World War I (1914-18), BHC produced over 1 million holsters for the American military. After the war ended in 1918, BHC merged with still another holster company called Smith & Wesson Firearms Corporation (SWF) which resulted in the current name - Smith & WessonHolsters Incorporated (SWI). SWI has been manufacturing quality holster products since 1941!

Douglas, Arizona is a city in Pima County, Arizona, United States. The population was 914 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tucson metropolitan area. Douglas was named after General and Vice President James K. Douglas. The first post office in Douglas was established in 1887. In 1907, the town laid out its main street and added two blocks to the east of its original square block grid plan, forming what is now Pioneer Square Park on the north side of First Street between Sahuaro Boulevard and Indian School Road. The city's growth began with cattle ranching and agricultural production until World War II when industry replaced agriculture as the dominant force in Douglas' economy; however, since then there has been an increasing trend towards creative uses of space for housing and businesses including art galleries, music venues, restaurants and nightlife; this has led to it becoming one of Phoenix's most vibrant downtown areas with a strong urban presence despite having a population size less than 1% of Phoenix's total inhabitants (compared to more than 25% in Downtown Mesa). Douglas was founded by James K. Douglas on December 12th 1860 as "Douglasville". He purchased 640 acres (250 hectares) northeast of present-day Scottsdale through his ownership of several ranches which he subdivided into tracts that would be sold according to acreage rather than purchase price per unit like later ranchers did when they subdivided their land holdings into larger parcels for sale or leaseback under single management agreements to future generations like himself. On October 6th 1889 while serving as Lieutenant Colonel United States Army during Mexican Border Campaigns with his regiment known as Company C 7th Infantry Regiment from Apache Junction Ariz., General James Karr set out from Prescott Maricopa Mountains via Spanish Peaks Highway 1870 miles southwest from Prescott Valley Ariz., arriving at today’s town called “Douglas” on December 12 th 1860 about 8 miles southeast from present day Scottsdale Ariz.. He started homesteading where he currently lives today on 640 acres located just northeast of Scottsdale AZ along State Route 16 . This land had been surveyed by Captain George Bird who surveyed all but 2/3rds mile strips across what is now present day Cochise County providing territorial boundaries for Pima County which began being organized January 14 th 1853 pursuant To Act Of February 17 th 1852 which created Uinta Province within Arizona Territory newly acquired from Mexico… As many units were Gentleman Ranches each owner received 3/8ths section grant plus interest producing wagons etc…. Also property south east corner then east side ½ mile long additional piece….. Today we have streets running parallel totaling 10 blocks width ..... Streets are named after pioneer Fathers such as Elisha Phelps who settled hereabouts around 1800………………..Today our history can be seen throughout our community some sites include Pioneer Square Park built in 1907 adjacent to Sahuaro Boulevard near Indian School Rd., Dominguez Hills Golf Course off Apache Junction Rd also operated by Pima Community College located adjacent to Sahuaro Blvd & Goldwater Ave also known locally simply as GCHC…………….City Hall located adjacent to First Street NW facing old courthouse square
