TheDouglas, Arizona area has a rich history of ammunition production. The first shooting events in Douglas took place in 1892 when the community organized an annual firearms competition. It was not until 1903 that the first rifle and shotgun matches were held. In 1907, a local arms manufacturer, Henschel & Co., began producing ammunition for the new Model T Ford car. Ammunition production continued at Henschel until 1933 when it was bought by Winchester Repeating Arms Company. Winchester Repeating Arms Company produced firepower from 1898-1903 inclusive before moving their operations to Springfield, Massachusetts. From 1903-1913 Remington Ammunition Manufactory operated out of Douglas as well; however, all Remington ammo products were discontinued in 1913 due to World War I munitions restrictions. Only a select few rounds from these years remain available today (primarily those made during World War II). In 1934, Winchester Repeating Arms Company moved back to Douglas after purchasing Henschel & Co.'s assets along with their current manufacturing facilities located on Cherokee Road just north of town center. At this timeDouglas became one of Winchester's primary manufacturing locations for both rifle and pistol ammunition as well as shell cases and primer pockets for various shotguns including pump shotguns and rifles. Today many of Douglas' early guns still reside within its confines - most notably the original Rambler Rifle Museum which is open daily 9am-5pm except Christmas Day (-)

In 1954 Douglas became one of six cities in Arizona selected for inclusion in Interstate 10; however, it would not be until 1979 that Douglas would become an incorporated county seat within Maricopa County following the passage of Proposition 203 which shifted all county government operations from Tucson to Maricopa County. Prior thereto, Prescott had been serving as both county seat and central government center for most issues facing residents within Maricopa County while Scottsdale had been serving primarily as a bedroom community for eastern Arizonans living near Phoenix. Today Douglas remains a small town with a population below 100 people but its legacy as an incorporated city still persists today with several popular businesses such as JCPenney (now Macy's) and Safeway existing long after their smaller counterparts have closed or relocated away from their predecessors due largely toDouglas' status within Maricopa County!
