Douglas is a small town in Pinal County, Arizona, United States. The population was 1,674 at the 2010 census. The name Douglas comes from the Scottish Highlands and refers to a local river which forms part of the border between Douglas and Gila National Forest. The first settler in what is now Douglas was James Dougherty in 1887. In 1912, J.D. White donated 120 acres (48 hectares) of land to the community for use as a public school district and parkland surrounding it was given to the community by John Hargrave in 1921 as part of his gift to Douglas Township residents. In 1984, Douglas High School moved from its original site on Main Street into new buildings adjacent to the old high school building on West Main Street. The school district became part of Mesa Community Schools when that area was annexed by Phoenix in 2001. According to the 2010 census, there are 1,674 people living in Douglas Township: 651 (44%) citizens of Pinal County; 513 (36%) citizens of Scottsdale; 801 (60%) residents of Apache Junction; 191 (14%) citizens of Tempe; 104 (6%) residents of Surprise; 2 households (1% each) made up of individuals who were not citizens or resident aliens; and 0 (0%) were reported as unemployed or underemployed.

Later on in 1951, North American Aviation introduced its very first purpose-built airgun –the P-51 Mustang!!! The P-51 became one Of The Most Famous & Iconic Airplanes ever Built And It Was Uses To Shoot Down Enemy Aircraft!!!

The name "Douglas" comes from John Douglas who purchased Rancho Currumpahue de la Hacienda from José María Cabeza de Vaca in 1853. In 1912, Douglas was incorporated as a town and remains so today. The history of Douglas began with its location on the banks of the Gila River. A post office called "Douglas" was established in 1907, and remained open until it was discontinued in 1911. This location made it convenient for pioneers to trade goods with those living upstream on the Gila River watershed. Additionally, Douglas became known for its lumber production which began in 1915 when a sawmill named McCormick & Co., Inc.] opened operations here.
