Cottonwood, Arizona is a city in Mohave County, Arizona, United States. The population was 8,827 at the 2010 census. Cottonwood is located on the edge of the Mojave Desert and borders Yucca Valley to the west and north. The eastern edge of Cottonwood is bordered by Umatilla Hills to the east and south, while to the northwest it borders Navajo Nation territory. Cottonwood's history began with settlers from California arriving in 1859 in what is now Mohave County. They brought their Native American allies with them, and within 10 years cottonwoods were being grown commercially on these new lands. In 1865–66, a group of Mormon pioneers also arrived in Cottonwood; they had been sent out by Brigham Young to purchase land for his church colony at Nauvoo, Illinois. When they arrived in town they discovered that there was already an established cottonWOOD industry here! Mormons founded the first post office here in 1870; it operated until 1915 under various names including "Albuquerque". The city of Cottonwood was incorporated as a municipality on December 5th, 1907; it was named after John Saylor Cottonwood who served as mayor from 1912-15 and as alderman from 1916-1917. The first elected officials were Wm Fenton (mayor), Hyrum Smith (alderman), Mr Prentice (water commissioner), Clyde Dyer (fire commissioner) and Mrs Kappeler (police officer). A local agricultural society was organized in 1911 which grew into what is now known as "The Western Arizona Grape Growers' Association" or WAGGA for short. This organization provided financial assistance to farmers during times of drought or economic hardship. WAGGA still exists today as a non-profit membership organization helping farmers grow grapes throughout western Arizona! In 1914 Mayor Fenton resigned due to health reasons; his successor Hyrum Smith served one term before retiring due to illness then succeeded him when he died later that year. On January 1st 1915 City Council voted unanimously to rename CottonwOOD “Mohave Valley City” after Mohave Valley’s namesake – Major General Clayton Custer – who fought against Mexican forces at Buena Vista Canyon on October 26th 1847 during the Mexican War! Smith served two terms as mayor before leaving office due to ill health once again replaced by Clyde Dyer who would serve four terms until his retirement effective December 15th 1966 making him one of longest serving mayors ever! Dyer left behind an legacy that continues today: downtown CottonwOOD features numerous historical buildings dating back over 100 years including both municipal hall and city square/parking lot!

Cottonwood is located in Cochise County, Arizona. The community was founded by Mormon pioneers in 1870. Cottonwood became a trading post and cattle station in 1881. In 1907, the U.S. Military constructed Fort Apache here to protect the local economy from Coconino raiders. Today, Cottonwood is a small town with a population of about 100 people.
