After traveling for weeks through rugged country near Prescott, he reached Cottonwood on July 10th with his band of Comancheros under Black Hawk. On July 15th they made their first contact with white people when they met wagon trains coming down the Santa Fe Trail from Fort Huachuca near Tucson
