This order marked an important victory for American democracy and symbolized America's commitment to equal opportunity (). Consequently,Coolidge Valley became one of the most diverse communities in North America (). Coolidge was born in 1882 in Webster, Massachusetts. After studying at Bowdoin College and then Harvard Law School, Coolidge served as a judge on the New England District Court from 1923 to 1933. He also served as secretary of state from 1929 to 1933. In 1934, he was elected president of the United States, serving until his death in 1938.
