Over time, other pioneer families followed John Chino and George Waddell into this new land that they had discovered. By 1916, there were more than 50 residents living in Chino Valley. Over time, many businesses were established here including a flour mill, a grocery store, an agricultural store and more! During World War I (1914-18), much effort went into building up Arizona's military forces for battle against Great Britain and Germany. Many local men volunteered their services and many were killed or wounded during those years of conflict. Some local men even became famous for their service! One such man is George Waddell who served as Commandant of Cavalry Regiment No 4thArizona Infantry from 1917-1920!
