When Mexico won its independence from Spain in 1821, Chino Valley became part of Mexican territory and was not administered by either country until 1861 when it was incorporated as a town under the name Wellesley. In 1926, after years of negotiations led by Mayor Harry Wirths, Chino Valley became an enclave within the city limits of Tucson. Population growth in Tucson caused some changes to be made to ChINO's government which included increasing job opportunities for women while preserving many aspects such as its smaller size and community character that have helped it stay relatively intact over time

Chino Valley, Arizona is a small town located in Mohave County, Arizona. It was established in 1885 by Luther Chino and his family. The town has a population of approximately 4,000 people. Chino Valley is the home to the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum and the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum. The townsite at ChinoValley was first surveyed by Luther Chino in 1885. The name "Chino" may be derived from Spanish chucko or Italian chinotto meaning "to uplift." In 1887, the U.S. Post Office was founded here with mail sent from Prescott until 1935 when it was moved to Phoenix. Many years ago, cornmeal mush (a type of porridge) was prepared regionally for sale at marketplaces throughout the area; however, this tradition is no longer extant today. In 1905, John Wesley Hughes came to Chino Valley as an instructor at Apache Mountain School and started teaching school there permanently in 1906-07 while still living in Prescott while continuing his work as an evangelist with Modern Missionary Baptist Church of Prescott (later Southern Baptist Convention). This move allowed him more time for personal study and ministry opportunities beyond what he could do through preaching services given only weekdays during those early days at Apache Mountain School during winter months which provided much needed financial sustenance for that church's missions work around Pearce Prairie outside of Prescott where he ministered year-round until its closure in 1919 due to budget constraints within Southern Baptist Convention itself rather than any lack on effectiveness or innovation on his part; see also:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Wesley_Hughes#History_of_the_Church_(Southern_ Baptists) . In 1907-08 Hughes began construction on First Presbyterian Church now known as St Jamess Episcopal Chapel across Main Street from Apache Mountain School - both churches were dedicated May 2nd 1908 after massive snowstorms had buried most of Prescott beneath several feet of snow! A plaque marking the location can be found adjacent to First Presbyterian Church Multi-purpose Room on Main Street just east of US Route 66 just south of exit 666 (just north of today's intersection with SR 606).
