Each type has its own advantages and disadvantages that make it an excellent choice for different activities outdoors. The size of a tube is an important consideration when choosing a type of binoculars. A small enough tube will (<1”) fit inside your pocket or wallet while larger tubes (>1” in diameter) can be difficult to carry around but offer greater range (see table below). Tubes come in two sizes: 8mm and 10mm diameter. The 8mm size is the smallest option and offers the least range because it covers only about 1/4 mile at 100 yards; however, it is still good for birdwatching and target shooting exercises.10mm tubes offer more range at 100 yards since they cover about 3/8 mile at 100 yards; however they require longer focal lengths (>50 mm), which may not be appropriate for some applications such as birdwatching due to their low magnification power (.25x). The Chino Valley Observatory was founded in 1912 by Dr. J.M. Harley and Mr. W.H. Sweeney, two prominent Tucson businessmen. The observatory was located on the east side of Chino Creek, just east of what is now the University of Arizona campus. In 1916, Drs. Harley and Sweeney donated land to form the present-day observatory complex on a ridge overlooking Chino Creek and its watersheds. A new building was constructed on the property in 1922 and used until 1957 when it was destroyed by fire
Chino Valley is a small town in Pima County, Arizona, United States. The population was 6,859 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tucson metropolitan area and is located on the eastern edge of Chino Hills National Monument. The town has been inhabited since 1867 when it was called Chinyaga and developed by Mormon settlers from Utah. It was platted in 1881 as part of what would become Pima County. The name "Chino" comes from Spanish meaning "to cover or protect." The first post office in Chino Valley opened in 1881. The community grew rapidly during the late 19th century due to its location near both Tucson and Phoenix and its proximity to railroad tracks that allowed for rapid growth. In 1916, Chino Valley became a city with a population of over 20,000 people. During World War II, Chino Valley served as an assembly point for military personnel coming down from Tucson and Phoenix as they went into battle. Many businesses were established here during this time including Metallurgic Manufacturing Co., Incorporated (now known as Western Metallurgical), which manufactured war materials such as tanks and planes; Springtown Publications Company (now defunct); Instrumental Music Distributors, Inc.; J L White Drug Store; First Floor Furniture Warehouse; Joppa Chevrolet Department store; Riverside Camera & Photo Service Ltd.; Oil Well Service Station No 3; Beaulieu's grocery store; McCracken's barber shop/coffee house; Redding Chinese restaurant/take-out place serving Chinese cuisine until 1978 when it closed down after being open for sixty years In 1951, Pima County annexed much of east-central Pima County making Chino Valley an enclave within its boundaries with a total population of just over 10,000 people living within commuting distance to central Mesa and eastbound Interstate 10 while still remaining administratively separate from north Scottsdale. However by 1976 all but 1% of the citizens within commuting distance had moved out to Central Mesa while most residents within commuting distance continued to reside in Chino Valley proper with a population size now around 15,000 people living primarily inside the downtown core with only 1% relocating outside of that boundary . By 2000 all but 2% of residents lived inside their own municipality limits while majority resided outside any municipal boundaries . Today there are less than 5500 residents living within commuting distance who maintain close ties to their municipal government while more than 94% reside outside any municipal boundaries . There are no parks or public services available throughout the entirety
