In 1876, Spanish founder Francisco García granted land for a mission station called San Diego de Alcántara (at present- day Goodyear), which served as an American outpost for Mission San Diego de Alcántara until 1881 when it became Mexico's only mission station after California gained statehood. After Mexican independence from Spain on November 16th, 1821 AD, Alcalántara continued serving as an American mission until March 6th 1830 when all Mexican missions were shut down due to pressure from developers seeking access to lucrative mineral resources discovered along the borderlands with Mexico proper including Baja California Sur and Chihuahua city; this changed following US annexation of Mexico during the Rebellion against US rule that began on February 14th1865 following President Andrew Johnson's proclamation that "Laws are made for Americans and not Mexicans".
