Casa Grande, Arizona is a city in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. During World War II, much activity took place in downtown CASA GRANDE due to nearby Bataan Naval Air Station (now Malmstrom Air Force Base), which served as targets for Japanese bombers during that conflict. On December 5th 1942 Japansai Maru boat sank within sight or sound from CASA GRANDE docks causing great panic among ozonated citizens who launched boats into the river to try and save their loved ones; however all efforts were fruitless and no lives were lost

Casa Grande, Arizona is a town in Pinal County, Arizona, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,911. The name Casa Grande means "House of the Roses." The first people to live in what is now Casa Grande were Native Americans. In 1867, prospector George Hearst named his ranch after the Mexican state of Chihuahua and built a large adobe settlement on the mesa overlooking the Gila River. He also founded what became known as Apache Junction (now Phoenix). In 1912, cattle rancher John Wesley Powell discovered oil reserves at Saguaro National Park and began developing his land around it. By 1916 he had leased 3 square miles (10 km2) from Ajo Company for $1 per year and called it Casa Grande. The government gave him immunity from taxes so that he could develop his land rapidly. In 1920, he sold 2 square miles (5 km2) to Edwin Easley for $5 per month; this opened up most of today'sCasas Grandes area for development. In 1935 Gilbert Crenshaw bought some rights to Powell's oil fields and started developing them himself. By 1937 he had purchased all of Powell's remaining property east of Interstate 10 and renamed it Casa Grande Oil Field Reserve after himself and his wife Alma Crenshaw-Powell (1907-2000). Billionaire Warren Buffett acquired part of Crenshaw's holdings in 1984 and continues to own parts of Casas Grandes today as well as Mesa Verde National Park in Utah which covers much of present day Tucson AZ
The Casa Grande area was first settle by the Hualapai tribe in the 18th century. In 1863, Arizona Territory was created from parts of Mexico and California. The region around Casa Grande became part of this territory. On November 16, 1912, a bill was passed in Congress to create the United States Territorial District of Phoenix and subsidiary townships around it. The territorial district was made up of all of Arizona except for Apache Junction and portions of New Mexico and Colorado. On January 14, 1912, Casa Grande residents voted to secede from the territorial district and become a town within their own city limits. This move set off a six-month war between the city and the Hualapai tribe over control of the settlement. On February 15, 1912, after successful negotiations between both sides, casa grande residents agreed to merge with the City of Phoenix under a new name: "Casa Grande." In 1931–32, during World War II, casa grande became an airbase for American military aircraft flying into nearby Phoenix Airport. The airport still uses some aspects of its early history including two large hotels (the original Hotel Arizona and now Park Hyatt) as well as several smaller hotels/motels scattered throughout downtownPhoenix today.
