Casa Grande is a small town located in Pinal County, Arizona. The community was founded by the Casagra family in 1868. The Casagras were Spanish-American settlers who arrived in Tucson, Arizona, during the Mexican-American War. In 1870, they established a rancho (a type of land grant) on what is now west side of downtown Casa Grande. In 1912, the Casagra family donated 5 acres to the town for use as a public square. In 1913, the first school was built in Casa Grande and served grades one through twelve. On July 4th of that year, American Legion members from nearby Prescott brought a cake to share with students at Casa Grande High School. The event became known as "The Cake Day." In 1925, when Pinal County was created, parts of Pinal and Cochise Counties were merged into it. As part of this merger process,Casagrande struggled to find an official name for its new county seat. In 1929–30, residents proposed "Casa Grande" but no vote was taken and the name remained unrecorded until 1940 when it was chosen by referendum over "Pima," "Tucson," and "Arizpe." On January 1st of 1951, portions of Pinal County were transferred to newly formed Cochise County pursuant to statehood proceedings which occurred at that time under provisions of the Arizona Constitution which provided for such transfers when conditions warranted them. At that time Rancho Niguel de Santa Fe de Tejanco lying eastward between Tucson and Phoenix on trackless mesas near present day Carefree Park had been gifted by Bahía Blanca ranchers José Antonio Higueruelos y Toro to city fathers Francisco Crespo and Lorenzo Ferrara as one large gift making them joint proprietors with title thereto jointly owning all or part thereof with right of succession unto themselves forever without any shares being sold or alienated while still retaining their rights therein against any person whatsoever having any interest therein before February 2d 1915 inclusive; duly executed by bothJose Antonio Higueruelos y Toroand Lorenzo Ferrarain presenceof Mayor Francisco Crespoand City Fathers Lorenzo Ferraraand Jose Antonio Higueruelos y Toro subscribed thereto this 8 day aforesaid ( Februaruary 2d 1915). By act dated february 10th 1915 same publication has hereuntobeen included & affixed All deeds done since february 2d 1915 inclusive are hereby ratified & constitute an part hereof This thus becomes our permanent government document

Casa Grande was founded in 1912 by George Catlett. The town was named after the Mexican federal district of Casa Grande, which lay to the east of the modern city. In 1915, Catlett donated land to the city for a public square, and in 1924 he gave another piece of land to the city for a park. The first permanent residents of Casa Grande were seven families from Tucson who moved there from Chino Hills, Arizona in 1907. By 1916, out population had grown to twenty-three people. The following year saw the purchase of an adjacent piece of property for $5,000 by Mayor John Fenton (later Peña). This provided additional room for growth and also doubled as a community center and schoolhouse. In 1925, construction began on what is now City Hall which would serve as the nucleus of Casa Grande until it was replaced in 1949 by its current structure. The new building was designed by architect Harry Tilton and cost $10,000. It featured a two-story clock tower with original glasswork and ornamented porches that survived into later years. In 1927–28,Casas Grandes Playground opened with equipment purchased from Phoenix Municipal Park District #3 which included swingset balls, rinkside play areas and other amenities not found elsewhere at that time near downtown Phoenix
