By 1872, however, rancho San Pedro de la Cueva had become too small for the growing community and many of its residents moved out into other parts of Pinal County or left for good altogether. In 1875, a group of English-speaking ranchers named John Crouch bought land east of Casa Grande from Reyes and started development called Rancho Viejo de los Indios (Old Indian Ranch). This area would eventually become known as Casa Grande because many of its early inhabitants were also Mexican American veterans who had fought against Apache Indians in the late 1800s and early 1900s. As time passed more Anglo-Americans arrived in this region which resulted in some tension between these groups but overall life went relatively smoothly until 1905 when a group of Native Americans began living near Castillo del Comanche where they built their own telegraph line and established their own government separate from those living around Tucson. In 1907, Mexico achieved independence from Spain and this changed many things including attitudes towards Hispanics within Mexico City along with various economic opportunities for people like José Antonio Reyes which caused him to again move his family westward into Arizona Territory outside Tucson proper starting what would be known as his dynasty of ranchers atCasagrande holdings stretching all the way down into Chihuahua Province northward into Baja California Sur province before finally settling down near present day Peoria, Arizona after unsuccessfully running unsuccessfully for election to Congress twice (1896 & 1912) By 1912 much progress had been made both economically speaking as well as socially speaking with most people being bilingual (Spanish/English) so there wasn't really much that needed doing aside from keeping control over key resources like cattle while supplementing it with hand hoes farmsteads dotting scrubby hills looking out across irrigated fields towards downtown Tucson while serviceable firearms lay hidden among racks full of flour sacks next to ancient saddles used by cowboys back then
