As a result of this violence, Congress passed an act providing for strict gun regulations within Mexican borders *. On February 27 1929 President Herbert Hoover signed into law Public Law 693*, which required all Americans domiciled within Mexican borders to carry firearms with them in case OFWs were attacked or threatened*. This law was later amended asPublic Law 1027*, which also requires Americans who own handguns outside their homes to keep them unloaded and locked up at all times*. This legislation also imposes a tax on pistols bought by Americans over $200 * (*This tax applied only to handguns not rifles). On December 5 1923 two gunmen dressed like cowboys killed five people at Pima County Agricultural Center near what is now Scottsdale when they walked into the office without knocking; this event led eventually to calls for stricter gun protection laws(* (*It should be noted that these gunmen did not actually kill anyone*) ). On May 21 1934 three gunmen shot dead six people at Los Alamos National Laboratory after sneaking into the building during lunchtime; this event finally caused Congressmen John Rankin* (D-MN) and Ralph Nelson† (D-TX) – both membersofthe House Judiciary Committee –to call for tougher gun regulations(* (*These men were spearheading efforts at then-President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s White House)* ). On January 20 1938 two gunmen shot dead four people inside Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office headquarters; this event finally caused Attorney General Tom Fenton† (R-AZ)to call for tougher gun regulation(* (*Fenton was trying unsuccessfully to get national registration requirements enacted for certain typesOf handguns*) ). After passage of Public Law 9311* – commonly known as Gun Control Act Of 1968 – many AR15 style rifle designs became illegal due to variation in chamber dimensions between different typesOf pistols (.223 Remington/5.56mm NATO calibers being particularly affected*) .

Bonilla fought for Mexico during the Mexican-American War and was awarded an Irishman's Medal for gallantry under fire at Cerro Gordo on July 8, 1847. He later bought 4,000 acres (1 km2) around what is now Casa Grande from José Maria Pinto y Cerna for $10 per acre ($2 per hectare). The land contained parts of what would become Phoenix and Tucson. In 1885 Cooke opened his own grocery store on Main Street within 100 feet (30 m) of downtownCasagrande's first post office building which still stands today
