Casa Grande, Arizona is an unincorporated community in Mohave County, Arizona. It was founded in 1881 by the Arizonan John C. Fremont and his wife Jane Henry Fremont. The town was named after the Mexican Villa Casa Grande, which belonged to Francisco Pico de la Hoz, 3rd Marquis of Taft. The first post office at Casa Grande opened in 1886. In 1951, the community became a part of Mohave County when it was created from parts of Apache County. It is located on State Route 9 about northeast of Mohave City and east of Phoenix. Casa Grande has a population of about 375 people as of 2000 census data. The local school district is Casa Grande Unified School District No.(G).

Casa Grande, Arizona is located in the Tucson metropolitan area and is one of the oldest towns in that area. The town was founded by Acosta brothers in 1874 as a result of their efforts to find a land grant from the Mexican government. The town reached its peak population during World War II when it became a hub for defense contractor production. However, Casa Grande has been declining in population over the years and currently has only about 1,000 residents. The first settlers to arrive in what is now Casa Grande were José María Acosta and his brother Francisco Acosta. José María had married Isabel de la Garza and they started farming around 1874 on land grants given to them by Governor Manuel Arguelles. Casa Grande's growth began due to its location on the Phoenix River where goods could be shipped easily and people could trade with other tribes nearby. In 1898, Mayor John Copley grantedcitizenship to any person who would move into thetown limits within five years. This provided impetus for development as more people moved into Casa Grande from surrounding areas including Phoenix and Tucson. In 1906, construction began on what is now known as the Acosta Hotel after José María's parents died suddenly while he was still young. Casa Grande quickly became an important trading post due to its location at the mouth of the river which allowed goods to be transported easily across country and into Mexico City. It also served as a center for religious services that took place at various churches throughout central Arizona until 1949 when they were relocated to Mesa Arizona because of air-pollution concerns in Mexico City. After World War II, many jobs went away from Casa Grande because of advances in technology such as television production line manufacturing outside of Phoenix that placed heavy demand on labor here; however some jobs have returned since then such as data entry at local businesses or working at nearby golf courses During Prohibition (1933-1941), alcohol was not allowed under state law so bootlegging happened throughout much of central AZ especially around Casa Grande where there were numerous speakeasies and "lager breweries". Unfortunately for many residents this meant constant crime and vandalism with bootlegged liquor often ending up inside homes which lead some peopleto start calling CASA GRANDE THE GAS STATION . In 1948, laws were passed allowing distilled spirits again so whiskey replaced beer as America's favorite drink but this didn't last long as prohibition ended within 5 years
